In the aftermath of the Hydra Uprising, S.H.I.E.L.D. is not what it once was. With Brigadier General Talbot hunting them every step of the way, S.H.I.E.L.D. was forced underground alongside Hydra, and now they must do all they can to defend the Earth without revealing themselves. Led by Director Phil Coulson and Commander Genevieve James, the team consists of ex-S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and mercenaries, as well as what remains of the old team. And with Grant Ward in the basement and Jemma Simmons working for Hydra, nothing can be assumed to be what it seems.

The arrival of Carl Creel, a powered mercenary, is only the start of the mysteries for the team. Soon, they will be embroiled in alien activity, questions of heritage and ancestry, and none more curious than the parentage of Agents Skye and James. In the end, only one thing is sure.
