December 23rd 1864

Somewhere in South Carolina


Come Hell or high water I will make it home for Christmas.

Confederate officer, Craig Langston, shifted the leather strap holding his rifle to the opposite shoulder and crept to the roadside lining the woods, keeping a weather eye out for Yankee patrols.


He breathed a tentative sigh of relief and jogged into the open. Dusk shrouded the countryside, obscuring him in a blessed blanket of shadows. Encouraged, he kicked up the pace.

It had taken all his powers of persuasion to secure a brief furlough in order to visit his wife and the newborn son he'd never met. He'd be damned if he spent his entire leave picking through the woods and underbrush avoiding Yankees. To top it off, his meager food supply had already run out, and if not for the creek he'd run  into an hour before-literally, water still sloshed in...

Why are there two Craig Langstons? One is a doctor and the other is a confederate officer. It's confusing.
