One snowy night, Lily Matheson finds herself on the same road she took years ago when she left behind Westfall along with the boy she’d loved for years.

Propelled by a burning ambition to prove herself bigger than the small town existence everyone expected her to embrace, she forged a different path that took her far, far away from the future Adam Bishop once hoped to have with her. Counting him as the highest price she had to pay for her dreams, she contented herself with her new life until it became all too clear that the present was no longer a means to chase an elusive future but to hold on to a fast-fading past.

In the company of memories, in the town they knew as well as each other, and in a night when time is at a standstill, Lily and Adam discover that to some, your first love could be your last if you’re brave enough to find your way back.

That's true...No one can make you happy, but yourself. That is, until you realize and understand the complete definition of contentment. But that's only after going through traumatic and life altering experiences.
I think there is a difference between nice and understanding and being a weak puppy letting himself get walked over and unfortunately Adam falls under the latter

I don't think I could have stomached a touch from her if I was in Adam's shoes. I would have been WAY too broken.

Pretty much. They both were selfish, but still loved and wanted each other. It was all misinterpreted as not loving each other enough, however. That's the heart breaking part of it all...

Hm. She didn't want to end up like her mother... It's fair, but considering that her life and love began under differing circumstances, it wouldn't have been. Perhaps.... or maybe it would have been had they not both done what they needed to do in their individual lives first.

That dramatic of an event and knock loose unconscious and suppressed emotions . She probably was going through the motions and maybe she even wanted it. But, you heart wins out over everything. Poor Barry.
