The Royal Guard of the Empire has faithfully served Byzantia for nearly three centuries now. Hand picked from foreign lands, these guardsmen hold no political ties, carry no agendas, and bare no creeds except to those who sit upon the Onyx Throne. They are vanguards, protectors, loyalists.

They are Vangen.

Change has come to the Empire. An Empress sits upon the throne now, destroying any who would rebel against her with both fire and iron. To the east, her loyal Vangen work to quash the newest rebellion, until a letter arrives one day, marked with the Empresses seal. The contents within bare only dread and disturbance for the Guardsmen. The Black Ministry, the former Emperor's cabal of Sorcerers, have turned against the Empress.

The Vangen's return is bittersweet. The city they once called home is now a battlefield, every street a choke-point. Every home a possible nesting ground for rebels. The Royal Guard will have to fight tooth and nail to put down the Ministry and protect the Empress, but the deeper they go, the harder the lines begin to blur. In a world where good and evil does not exist, where then does a man's loyalty lie?

Der Mensch ist böse. Der Mensch muss besser und böser werden So lehre ich. The human is evil. The human must become better and more evil. So I teach. A conflict of good and evil, in which evil proves that it is not as weak as it seems. Proving that darkness can overcome the light, The Twin Devils of the Rhine soar through the air. Their gaze, ferocious. Their weapons, locked and loaded. Their thirst for blood, at overdrive. The Empire fights its way against the entire world, one against them all. But one shall prove that their efforts are not in vain, for The Fairy and The Steel Gargoyle are on their site. Mercy is the last thing on their list, and their hate for the divine is right at its top. As one who denied God, and one who aligned himself with Lucifer, they fight their way through the war. One which carries the mind to fool God. One which carries the muscles to kill God. Be it a bullet, soldier, or bomb, nothing was effective against such a duo. Both of their life may have ended earlier than imagined, but like the undead, they rose from their tombs. Their rest was cut short, and their life once more began, this time, surrounded by nothing but evil and chaos. With them, they carried the will of The Empire, slaughtering dozens upon dozens of heretics who dared to raise weapons. An old ally on the wars of the world we're familiar unites once more. This time around, however, there are no nations to save their enemies from destruction and bloodthirst. The Gifted, humans with unique abilities to affect the world around them, have all but become extinct thanks to the dark reign of a usurper. And somehow Zephyr Elvy has managed to live her nineteen years in the blissful quiet of a small town next to the sea. Zephyr has always been content to keep to herself, and happy to live a simple, if uneventful, life. If only the universe had that in mind for her. Forced to flee the only place she has ever called home, Zephyr finds herself running through a world she has only ever read about, along with two soldiers who have deserted their posts to keep their consciences clean. With only a letter and a mysterious weapon as clues to why she's being hunted, Zephyr must face her own fears while discovering a whole new world of terrors at the hands of a queen she knows next to nothing about. Having never risked anything her entire life, Zephyr is forced to choose between apathy or action, hiding and keeping to herself, as she has always done, or taking a leap that could change the world she is just now getting to see. ***** Thank you SO MUCH for reading!
