He snapped his attention back to Hope. She pointed to the honey jar. "Can you pass me that, please? I like honey on my peanut butter sandwiches."
"Right, uh, sure..." he answered absently, pushing the jar over to her. She used a spoon to throw a dollop of honey on each of her sandwiches. Trying to mask his mood, he continued to pack his sandwiches and some cookies in the picnic basket. They had decided to have lunch outside that day.
"So are you okay?" she asked with an eyebrow raised.
"Yeah, just fine," he chuckled with a forced smile before grabbing some napkins.
She knew he was lying, she just couldn't put her finger on what he was lying about.
Townsend has never been the most attractive or interesting man. He's a simple librarian that likes sweets and enjoys having the same routine every day. Hope, on the other hand, is a ball of fire that enjoys tromping around the woods and already has a crush of her own.
