The Outcasts: A Halfblood Story
12 year old Jace has been homeless his whole life, ever since a lunatic killed his parents and tried to murder him as well. But he has always had the company of Jeb, another homeless man who took him in and told him odd stories of Greek gods. Then one day, as he fights another mysterious monster who calls him brother, his strange powers get out of hand. Along with the monster, Jeb dies at Jace's hand. Suddenly alone, Jace swears off his powers, afraid of himself and the cruel world. Everything changes, though, on his 13th birthday, when a mysterious group who call themselves the Hunters of Artemis whisk him away to a camp, where he is told he is "safe." As it turns out, he is the opposite. Jace is the son of a powerful goddess, one who has never before had a child with a mortal. The camp seems to be falling in pieces. And Jace will do anything to save the one place he has truly belonged.
This is a Halfblood fiction, but you don't need to have read all or any of the books to read it.
