The Chill is a deadly, cold windblow that scratches windows and whistles against walls for a night.

Heron - the heir of the monarchy of Ceres - lost his mother to The Chill two years later, and he still battles with the grief.

The cold winds broke break through again, and they lead Heron to Davir - a stranger unable shelter himself from the cold on time. Found unconscious in the royal domain.

The mysterious man has odd vital signs and no memories of who he is. Heron can't fathom how Davir entered the highly secured royal domain. But he takes it upon himself to provide him treatment, avoiding the same fate his mother had known.

A man indebted to him is a guard easy to persuade. Thus, helping the stranger culminates in the opportunity for Heron to buy himself more liberty from the control of the ruling council. Heron arranges a trial to enlist Davir to the guard of the domain.

The newly-gained liberty leads Heron to the dangers of the popular revolution against the monarchy festering beyond the ramparts of the royal domain.

Heron is not only forced to face the cruel legacy of his ancestors. He is blamed for it. Taking a stance against the revolution is difficult. Deciding whom to trust is harder.

Davir could be Heron's best ally. But his trust in him dwindles as all the clues leading to his past point toward the supernatural.
