Four people. Two boys. Two Girls. One year. A Companionship. In a society where prejudice and exclusion are the roots of all evil, Olive rotates through groups of four called Companionships every year. Befriending the randomly assigned Companions in your group is expected. Befriending anyone else, the Outsiders, is punishable by death. But, when Olive meets a boy outside of her Companionship, she starts to realize everyone should have a choice.
