Half a Life
Margo struggles to keep her family out of the reach of poverty. Night and day, she sits on her bench in the local park, and strums her guitar as her minimum wage job. Her brother, Matthias, has his life hanging on a thread. With his since-birth deafness disability and his fatal degenerative disorder, Margo does everything she can to get him his medication.
An odd stranger who calls herself Jacinthe pops up in the siblings' lives, along with her blood-bonded ally, Fray. In exchange for Matthias's well-health, Margo swears Fray half her life to impossible tasks, unthinkable tasks. But for her brother, Margo is willing to die - and now she's halfway there.
But to accomplish Fray's five tasks, Margo has to put up with Fray himself for two entire months. On the March equinox, Margo is expected to have completed her mission, otherwise Fray's and Matthias's lives are on the line. One sacrifice to save a life. No sacrifice to bring upon two deaths. This story intertwines the lives of four, all unearthly and all unwell - this is how they met.
