Into the Hills
1857. Appalachian Mountains, West Virginia.
Katherine Vanderbilt has just returned from boarding school to spend the summer at home with her ailing father. Upon her return back, Katherine is informed of her arranged marriage to a man she's never met, nor would care to meet. Fleeing her father's home, she is caught by a group of men in the outskirts of the Vanderbilt estate. Among them is the breathtakingly handsome, if not brutish and grizzled, Isaac McLean. Katherine is taken by his appearance, but knows that she must return home to her father, arranged marriage or not. However, Isaac's men have much different plans for her and soon, she is thrust into their world of war.
When Katherine discovers Isaac's family to be a group of Freedom Fighters on the Underground Railroad, she decides to stay and help, if only to make her way back to her home as quickly as possible.
Of two things Katherine Vanderbilt was completely sure of in this world; she would make it home, or die trying.
