Seoul does not surrender its oldest secrets, and some oaths were never meant to be broken. They were meant to be chosen. When a Black American woman arrives in Bukchon with a camera and a curiosity that unsettles old wards, she does not expect the city to watch her back. She does not expect the man in the lantern-lit hanok at the end of the alley, the one who has spent four centuries waiting for something he could not name. He is not entirely human and has not been for a long time. The blade beneath his floor has been keeping count. Between them something ancient and deliberate stirs, and the spirits notice immediately. The moon has terms. A wound from the Goryeo era is not finished bleeding. A spirit in the Han River has been patient for four hundred years and has learned to mistake that patience for entitlement. And the city itself is watching to see what she does with all of it. This is not a soft love story. It is the kind that costs something real, that lives in the space between devotion and danger, between mercy and reckoning. ©️ _RelleLebby_// R. L.

"don't look at me like that." you lean back, his harsh tone echoing in your ears, "like what?" he lifts up a hand, gesturing vaguely at your face, "like that." your furrow your eyebrows in confusion, "i don't follow." his frustration grows, and kyung-jun abruptly stands, his chair scraping across the floor. he stares down at you, his entire face twisted in anger, "do you pity me or something? do you think i need help? that you need to fix me?" "what? no," you find yourself on your feet, pleading with him desperately so he doesn't misunderstand, "kyung-jun, i swear that is not what this is." maybe at first that's what it felt like. guilt. an obligation to save kyung-jun's life when he had saved your own. but somewhere along the way, sometime during those tender, simple moments in his presence, you found that kyung-jun was different than you anticipated. he wasn't the bully you heard whispers about. there was more to him that he let on, than he allowed others to see. nowadays, when your eyes find his own, you see a boy who is hurting. who shoulders a heavy burden all alone. "then why the fuck are you barging into my life acting like you care?" 'because you'll die if i don't.' a night has come alternate universe. inspired by lovely runner & twinkling watermelon.
