When I Lean on you
In a small suburb in Texas thirteen year old Caleb is surrounded by an abusive father, and a mother that never lifts a finger to help him, or his sister. The only reprieve he finds is when he is with Gracie, his best friend since Kindergarten. But it is getting increasingly difficult to hide the things that occur within the walls of his home from her, and with the inevitable feelings beginning to develop between them at times he wonders if it is worth hiding everything from her. Nights at his house have always been the worst. He often leaves, unable to handle the cries he hears from his sister's room, knowing what his father is doing now that he is old enough to understand. With further growing resentment, and the occasional thought of what it would be like to end it all, Caleb acts out at school, picking fights, and smarting off to teachers. He grows more troubled with each day, and though he thinks he is strong enough, will he break under the pressures of growing up in such a strained situation?
