STRANGER THINGS meets I, ROBOT. Geeky 17-year-old Sierra Mendez and her handful of friends face an unknown threat originating from a new high-tech facility in the fictional town of Los Patos, California. After Sierra finds the dead body of the water district manager floating down the river, nearly everyone in Los Patos succumbs to a baffling malady that dulls their wits and makes them susceptible to brainwashing.

Phone and internet access are cut off, and the sinister new police chief further isolates the town by putting it on quarantine. When humanoid robots begin to replace the stupefied town residents, Sierra and her friends scramble to stop the hidden mastermind behind this deadly plot before it's too late.

LAST GIRL STANDING is a sci-fi adventure with humor and heart. It features a smart female protagonist and diverse characters reflecting the reality of near future California. The story is topical, with references to our growing inability to manage without our technological tools and toys. Themes of determination, resilience, and loyalty to friends and family run through the narrative.

I do like the cover. It goes well with the title and the red outfit really pops. The font style does somehow convey the drowning effect and is easy to read. The position of the girl does look like she might actually be drowning.
So I really think this one is much better :D.

The blurb has an Erin Brockovich feel to it, I like it.
(One point about it: „The new police chief is a lecherous geek“ seems to lack connection with the rest of the cover text iykwim)
I actually like it without the opening you had before!! IM SO EXCITED FOR THIS!!

I think she's quite well-crafted for a first chapter. Obviously expecting her character to be further developed, but so far it's quite good. I do sympathize with her having to put up with such a strange mother and situation. I suppose she feels loneliness.
I’m always eerie on tap water. Not clean at all. Too much fluoride
