WARNING: This story contains detailed descriptions of events and wounds obtained on a World War One battlefield. If you are sensitive to gore, violence, and death (and all that entails), please DON'T read this story.

Henry O'Connell joined the fight against the Germans as soon as the Great War began, although he quickly found that the trenches could not give him the glory and excitement he and his brother Albert had desired.

Henry suffers severe wounds on the battlefield, including exposure to mustard gas, getting caught in a blast, and being thrown into a mess of barbed wire. Later, he wakes up in a makeshift hospital, being treated by an American nurse-in-training named Samantha Wilks.
