         In this case, Mae's objective is to get as far away from WCKD as she can, while also keeping her only friend alive, safe.

         After losing everyone she ever knew and loved, she meets a new group who helps her in escaping the WCKD complex into the harsh environment of the Scorch. Friendships are built, but some are also torn apart, not to their own choice or doing. 

        Mae doesn't have a clue on where she's heading or if she's going to live long enough to get her new friends to safety, but the one thing she's certain of is that she will do whatever it takes.
