Author Stacy Schiff once said, "Motherhood is always an act of courage."

It is in these pages that I tell the stories of the courageous women in my line of mothers. In addition, I recount my own story as I discovered more about each one as a family historian, and how I became a mother myself along the way.

Each woman braved life and the journey of motherhood differently, and each faced her own trials along the way. Some became mothers early in life, and others became widows while their children were still young. Some survived famine, some traveled across the sea, others lived in the same place their whole lives.

And each one lived a courageous life both in their youth and as they raised their children.

May this book honor my mothers' lives, and their courage, and their stories.

Such a heartwarming memoir celebrating motherhood. Being a mother, I could connect with it even more.
