Sometimes, it seems like the world wants to destroy itself.
Aubre hardly has a life worth living.
After finding out that she was a Death Speaker--beings that can end life with their voices--her father chose to mutilate her. This rendered her unable to make a sound. But when Death Speakers cannot be heard, they cannot be seen, either. Thus, they become invisible, a distortion of the air.
No one ever knows that Aubre's there--except when she plays her flute. Even then, she only appears as a golden phantom on the streets of Renara. Most of the time, though, she is an invisible hand, stealing from the rich, giving to the poor, and looking on to everyone around her with envy.
But when she stupidly decides to steal from the royal treasury, she is captured by the palace guard and thrown into the dungeons. There, Aubre meets a peculiar man who's a Death Speaker like her, and who can teach her how to control her voice if she restores it.
This is a godsend opportunity for Aubre, but little does she know that the power of the voice is dangerous--and can unravel the world forever.
