All spacefaring civilizations are absorbed by Megacosm users, or else enslaved by them. Anyone who dares to question the elected rulers of the Megacosm--or worse, defy them--will suffer death by torture.

Only Thomas escaped that fate. He severed himself from the Megacosm in order to rescue his former friends from slavery and death, and now he's hunted as a renegade super-genius. But if he's going to survive in alien wildernesses, evading ruthless galactic armies, he needs help from the super-powerful prisoner whom he was forced to sentence to death.

Thomas and Alex have enough brilliance and power between them to bring freedom to the universe. They might destroy seemingly omnipotent galactic leaders ... but first, they need to figure out how to trust each other.

✴ Book 2 of a series. It's probably best to read "City of Slaves" first.

Hey, thanks!

Solid summary. I'm glad you chose this scene to help tie the reader back into the story going forward. It definitely helps.

I love this type of microtension, Alex battling with his own guilt and culpability. The mixed nature of his and Thomas's morality is very textured and makes them feel real

I wonder if the repetition of "all night" with the previous paragraph might be a bit close? Would work fine even if you just dropped that 2nd one and just left the sentence at "questions."
