Luke was empty. Not sad or upset, just empty.
❝That's the thing. She left, Anya. She left.❞ His eyes jumped up to mine, as if searching for something that might numb his pain. ❝So why won't you?❞
I stayed silent and wrapped my arms around his waist, laying my head on his shoulder. His black leather jacket was cold against my cheek, but I didn't complain because soon his arms were wrapped around me, too. His familiar smell of vanilla and smoke engulfed me, and while the sun shone, the cold wind stirred around us, pulling us closer. We were looking for warmth, hoping the fire wouldn't burn us while we searched.
I had always dreamt of the days when Luke would hold me, yet here I was, holding him instead.
