Life's A Beach for John Pilate. On the mend from a near-death experience in the snowy Midwest, Pilate is taking it easy on the sun-soaked beaches of Key West. Umbrella drink in hand, Pilate is writing a book and getting some much-needed therapy to deal with his imaginary friend Simon. He's also pondering the future with his new love, Kate. Life is looking up for John Pilate--until he is drawn into a world of murder, pirates, conch fritters and smart aleck remarks from invisible men. He has blood on his hands, a mysterious poker chip in his pocket, shadows over his shoulder and a sexy cop in his bed.
John Pilate is in trouble again--and the only way out is to find the key...Pilate's Key. ***"Pilate's Key" is a semi-finalist for Best Mystery/Thriller in the 2012 Kindle Book Review Awards.***

A lovely story, where did you get all your historical info from?

@DavidWFleming Thank you. The formatting on Wattpad is kind of a mess, but I'm glad it didn't detract too much from the reading experience. The lifeless eye--you're the first to mention it. Thanks! I hope you enjoy the rest of the book. The third in the series is coming in October.

An excellent beginning to this story. Deftly handled. I like how you handled the dialogue in the first couple paragraphs without having to offset it with quotes or italics. It worked rather smoothly. The lifeless eyeball is a nice opening image as well.

Love it, this is the first book after reading The Shack that has really been able to grab me. Love the dialogue between him and his doctor. Looking forward to reading the remainder of the book and purchasing the first book. Thank you for sharing your work.

I am enjoying the story but wishing I had read the previous story.
Rabies vaccine is not given for rat bites. I don't know how old John is, but rabies vaccine hasn't been given in the stomach for decades. Check with CDC recommendations.
Can't wait to read the rest.
