The Wise, The Wicked & The Wingless
Mariangela Arawen is both an angel and a demon. A mess of a being.
Not the type of angel in dreams, the ones of white feathered wings, halos, and the lovely soprano voices like sounds that come from melodious instruments.
The ones who live eternal and vibrant, and go to Heaven.
Not the type of demon found in nightmares, the ones with black membranous wings with talons, horns, and sultry, seductive voices reminiscent of soft contralto jazz and gold kissed stars.
The ones who die, and face delicious, delightful damnation in Hell.
But the type of anomaly borne of remorseful mistakes and passion tasting of tears, the ones with no wings to grace their shoulders, hair as red as human blood, and yearning deep in their shriveled half-souls for music they can only dream of.
The ones who's souls remain chained upon the earth, stuck in that middle-state of light and dark, chaos and order.
They're known as the unawakened, the ones not yet claimed by the blessed touch of Him and not yet called to the damning song of Lucifer.
Upon the day they reach the mortal age of 16, their true form awakens, tipped by the balance, and it is then that they may finally fly to the place that their soul has tipped the balance too; the place they hold to be true in their yearning.
Facing both social rejection and an inability to socialize as normal people do, Mariangela has awaited the day of her sixteenth birthday with a bated breath, only hoping for the day where she can finally have a place to belong.
She awakens, but something is wrong. She isn't an angel; she isn't a demon. She is both and neither, all and nothing. Even a bigger mess.
In a desperate attempt to find out where exactly she went wrong, she travels to the the ends of both the heavens and the earth. During her journey, she experiences things she never knew to be possible, learns the difference of a foe and a friend, and ultimately discovers who she was truly meant to be.
