A GOOD-FOR-NOTHING GIRL GOES ON AN UNWANTED ADVENTURE Kytra would be perfectly content mooching off of her mother for the rest of her life. In fact, she can't think of anything she'd like better. That is until the village elders threaten to throw Kytra out. Given the ultimatum of becoming a useful part of the community or leaving her mother behind, she is forced between two unsavory choices. With no real skill to speak of, she volunteers to retrieve the offering for the upcoming lunar feast. A MISUNDERSTANDING LANDS HER IN A DANGEROUS GAME Things don't go as planned when Kytra is accused of pickpocketing and thrown into a holding cell. Awaiting transport to the prison, she's sure she won't last long. In a last-ditch effort to survive, she convinces the guard to enter her into the infamous betting ring only known as The Trial. THE TRIAL MAY JUST COST HER, HER LIFE Competing against twenty-one hardened criminals is not what she signed up for. Everyone, including her, knows she'll be the first to die. But with no other options of escaping prison life, her choices are slim. IF IT DOESN'T COST HER, HER HEART FIRST The more people who bet on her, the shorter her sentence will be. If Kytra can make enough money for the bookies, she may just make it out of the Trial without going to prison...if she can survive that long.
