Healer-Second Book In Discovered Myths Series
Quote: A soft heart could easily become a heart of stone.
I look around the premises and spot a single large bed right in the middle. I didn't have enough time to look at any other details.
Meastre pushes me toward the bed and I see the blankets moving. Someone is sleeping in the bed and Meastre just stormed into his room. "He was awake just thirty minutes ago!"
I whimper when the man grabs the sleeping person by the shoulder and yanks him up. His hold tightens on my arm and I hiss. The pain is bearable but I felt bad for the waken man.
The young man looks at Meastre with large eyes. "What is the meaning of this?" He croaks groggily.
"When did you fall asleep?" Meastre ignores the man's question.
"Father, you know I go to sleep quickly. Now answer my question: why are you here?"
My eyes widen fearfully as I realize who this man is. The Meastre's son, Defire, keeper of the household when the General is away. Why did everything change so quickly?
The next thing I know, I was being thrown on top of Defire. My face was pressed against his chest as a hand forced me against the stranger.
"One of your women came to me after spotting this girl coming out of the carriage. And guess what she told me?"
Defire blinks, not understanding what his father was implying. He straightens me and wipes the tears I didn't know were on my face with his blanket. Then he looks back at his father.
"I don't understand. Please explain."
"I was going to anyway," the man snaps at his son. "What you just did confirmed her words: Don't trust that boleh. She had many affairs with your son before you even knew her. He would visit her compound and spend nights there. You know all the money you lost? It's on her."
When I heard the word boleh, I started crying even more. I didn't notice the forcing hand had left my back as Defire doesn't move a limb. He only blinks a few times before speaking.
