Looking back, Anna probably never really had much interest in commitment at all. It could be her undiagnosed ADHD, but Anna was always better at starting things than finishing them. So, when Ellen gave her an ultimatum, Anna was on a plane flying across the Atlantic the very next day. Well, 'I love you' isn't so much of an ultimatum to most of the general public, but to Anna, it was 'do or die', 'shit or get off the pot', 'love or leave'... So, she left. Not that she didn't love Ellen. She probably did. Ellen was the kind of person who's favourite colour is purple. If you know anyone with purple as their favourite colour, you know that this is very much a personality trait in its own right. Everything had to be purple, from her phone case or bedroom walls, to her short curly hair... even down to the Care Bear that she had tattooed on her soft plump left side shoulder. Whenever they would get Pinot-Noir-drunk in bed, watching Netflix, Anna would add rainbow coloured wings or a bloody battle axe to the Care Bear with sharpies. They would laugh and make up stories about the enemies slain or the unicorns befriended till they fell asleep with the laptop till displaying the ever haunting 'Are you still watching?' screen. On a beach so picturesque it was otherwise reserved for third-rate travel agency pictorials, Anna now spent her afternoon. Across the globe from Ellen, she expected to let a heatwave sweat out any memory of purple Care Bears and stained sheets, while looking at a group of roaming dogs playing around in the sand.

living in a tourist town as a lonely existence at times. summers were filled with fleeting happiness and excitement and when fall came, the streets and beaches became quiet and desolate. there were ways to ease that loneliness, but there were guidelines. the 'locals' had one very important rule: never fall for the tourists. the tourists came and went, staying for a few days or maybe the summer months if they were lucky enough. most stayed for a week or two and then disappeared. tourists were meant to be hookups or friends only, and everyone knew someone who thought they could date a tourist for july and august and had their heart broken. it was such a simple rule, but all rules were meant to be broken. in which a best-selling author and rising actress meet in a east coast town. "she was a tourist trap. she was alluring, fascinating, and so, so tempting and i knew i would not be able to resist for long"
