The batting legend Sachin Tendulkar recently shared that he was "clueless" on his Test debut and almost cried thinking that it was his last Test as well. However, he went on to play 200 Tests later in his cricketing career. "I was clueless, I have to admit that. I played the first Test as if I was playing a school match," Sachin Tendulkar told Nasser Hussain during the 'Nasser meets Sachin' episode on Skysports. In his first Test in 1989, former India player played against a Pakistan pace attack comprising Imran Khan, Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis and he shared his experience. Recalling his debut, he said, "Wasim and Waqar were bowling quick, and they were delivering short balls and all sorts of intimidating things they could do. I had never experienced anything like that, so the first outing wasn't a pleasant one. "Occasionally, I got beaten by their pace and bounce, and when I got out on 15, I felt embarrassed when I walked back to the dressing room. I was like 'what have you done, why did you play like this' and then when I reached the dressing room, I went straight to the bathroom, and I was almost in tears." Now he has innumerable batting records and at one point in time, he felt that he was not good enough for the game. "I felt I was completely out of place. I looked at myself and questioned myself and said: 'looks like this is gonna be your first and the last outing'. I felt that I'm not good enough to play at this level. I was upset and feeling low," Tendulkar said. However, he had a discussion with Ravi Shastri, who told Sachin to respect Pakistan bowlers' ability and their skill. He also said him to spend half an hour in the middle and then he would get adjusted to their pace. After that, everything would fall into place.

The batting legend Sachin Tendulkar shared that playing in empty stadiums will be really disappointing for him. The world is currently fighting against the novel coronavirus pandemic which has brought the world into a standstill. Because of this, all the sporting events have been either postponed or cancelled. "Empty stadiums would be so disappointing for players who are competing. There are lot of times when players respond to spectators. If I play a good shot and the manner in which crowd responds also brings in that energy," Tendulkar told PTI. He further added, "Similarly, if a bowler bowls a fiery spell and the crowd is responding to it, it builds a kind of pressure on the batsman and he needs to respond to it. Spectators are integral to any sport. Their encouragement, vociferous chants for or against you is a necessity in sport." However, he also shared how the cricketing world will cope up after this. He said that there will be a restriction on using saliva to shine the ball and social distancing will also be there as well. Moreover, hugging teammates and hifi might be avoided for sometimes too because these can be contagious. He also thinks sports should begin after the crunch situation gets back to normal something which his teammate and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly also said. The 13th edition of IPL is one of those leagues which have been postponed for the indefinite time period because of the pandemic. But he didn't comment on whether the IPL can happen in October this year or not. "I don't know how many days in this window are left and whether an IPL can be conducted during that period. I am sure government and the BCCI will take into account how safe spectators will be and how safe the players will be," he said. "After that, a decision will be made, and that''s how it should be. But if it''s safe, it will be nice to have cricket in whatever manner we can have.
