On the night that Voldemort went after the Potters, he killed James when he got in the way, but, he merely knocked Lily unconscious. When she came to, Harry's cot was empty and her husband was dead on the floor downstairs. Lily thought that Voldemort has killed her son. She was devastated, the only thing that kept her going was the child growing inside of her. She had been about 5 weeks pregnant when James and Harry were killed. When she finally gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Lily went to two people for help. The first was Severus Snape, Lily asked him to help raise the girl. He said no because even though she had Lily's red hair and green eyes, she was the offspring of James Potter. The second person Lily went to really surprised her. When she asked them to help her, they said yes. Lily just had to agree to help them in return.

Just some ideas about the rewrite that I'm working on. This is in no particular order.

Petunia Evans, although the older sister had been second to lily the moment she turned 11. While Lily was able to go off and make friends at a magic school Petunia was stuck in her house for years plagued with nightmares and dreams she couldn't fathom to decipher. Jealousy was an ugly thing that had seeped into Petunia and consumed her love for her sister and parents, the only thing she had going for her was her grandmother and her art. That was until she found a beaten boy laying in the middle of the road on a rainy night. Regulus Black was what saved Petunia, he made her a person that could feel something other then jealousy.
