After environmental collapse and a devastating world war, Neo America is plagued by the deadly Neurostrain-81 virus. While most infected perish, a rare few survive with heterochromia, becoming known as Type 3. Unfortunately for the survivors, they are now stuck in a society that isolates and discriminates, instead of treating them as victims.
The story begins with Miles Connory, a child torn from his family after surviving Neurostrain Type 3. Subjected to being an experiment in government labs, Miles is determined to tear down the system that once dehumanized him. Decades later, he becomes President of New America, vowing to protect everyone whose lives have been destroyed by prejudice.
Years after his rise, the narrative shifts to his daughter, the outspoken Astra Connory, who is marked by the same heterochromia that once doomed her father. Despite her family's power, Astra is not free from prejudice, as she must learn how to use her voice in a world hungry for her silence.
When political tensions rise and extremist ideologies regain strength, Astra and her family are forced into the heart of conflict, where the collision of morality, survival and resistance slowly turns her into a monster.
What begins as a fight against bullying grows into something bigger: the culmination of a system that spares some, and forces the rest to succumb.
