Grian wasn't one for teams, he didn't enjoy sports, he hated theater, thought playing an instrument was boring, and couldn't catch anything to save his life, so, he didn't join any. But when he finds out that he can't graduate with his class unless he takes an extracurricular Grian scrambles to find something to do. After getting hit in the face with a basketball 4 times he puts the idea of sports to rest. One day Grian's twin sister Pearl cashes in an I-O-U from when they were kids, leading Grian to be forced to sing for her band Boatem, in place of their old lead singer. Grian realizes pretty quickly that maybe being in a team isn't as bad as he originally thought.

Grian is testing out his minecart theories with Gem except Gem is staring at Pearl again.

Pearl was betrothed to marry her best friend when he turned 18. The only problem? Her and Scott both did not want to marry each other. The two of them were content with their friendship, not wanting to be more, to mean more. Pearl has thought about having to spend her future life with Scott, about seeing him everyday, waking up next to him every morning, kissing him. It all feels wrong, like that's not what she wants.
