Ariella (main character, Aphen) lives in the realm of Aphendria (people live on Aphendria are called Aphens). The realm is located right next to Earth and the portal to the realm in on the highest point of Earth, Mount Everest. The portal is not visible to the human eye so no humans have ever to been to Aphendria, although plenty of Aphens have visited Earth. They've lived in peace for centuries, not having to worry about any people invading their realm. Not until a group of people called the Elites find the portal to Aphendria and break in, becoming the first "Earthlings" to ever invade Aphendria. They go to war with the Aphens an end up winning, taking over Aphendria and making it their own. They separate all of the Aphens into 8 Att's, giving each Att a specific task they have to complete in order to keep the realm stable. Ariella and her family live in Att 6, the lowest ranked Att in terms of economics and social status, but they rank number one when it comes to tasks. Att 6's task is to defend the realm from any outside threats, meaning they have to train from a very young age until they turn 16 and are sent out on missions to different realms and planets to fight and take down other people who try and invade the realm. On one of the biggest missions, though, Ariella meets a boy named Eris that's apart of a team named Alamgir trying to break into Aphendria. She ends up figuring out that Eris is an escape from Aphendria and used to live in Att 6 like Ariella but he escaped with his older brother when he was 15. After some conflict, they team up and try to take down the Elites together.
