Prologue:
Blood. The world had been drowning in it.
Dr. Seraphina Vale's hands moved with relentless precision, stitching flesh and clamping vessels, her body long past exhaustion but her mind sharpened into something unbreakable. She had not slept in three days, yet still she stood at the edge of life and death, refusing to surrender a soldier to the dark. Every heartbeat she saved was a defiance against the chaos of war.
Once, when she first donned her white coat, she had sworn an oath: to heal, to preserve, to protect life even when death pressed close. That oath had carried her through firestorms, through nights filled with screams, through the cold silence of morgues when her efforts had come too late. It was not just a promise to her patients-it was her anchor, her reason to keep standing.
But as she tied off the final stitch and the monitors steadied, a sudden weight crushed her chest. The room tilted, shadows swallowing the glaring lights. A deafening silence roared in her ears. Her body gave way, collapsing to the ground with no strength left to resist.
When her eyes opened again, it was not the sterile white walls of the hospital that met her gaze.
It was silk. Gold. Incense.
A world not her own.
She could not know then what fate had conspired, nor why her hands-trained for the battlefield-had been brought here. All she understood, in that first fractured moment, was that she was no longer the doctor who walked among ruins and fire. She was something else, someone else.
And before her waited a man trapped in slumber, a prince abandoned by his kingdom. A man whose life teetered between shadow and light, his breaths poisoned by unseen hands.
Her battlefield had changed. Her weapons had not.
And her oath-the vow that had once bound her to strangers on operating tables-would soon bind her to him.
