Gracies POV
Really?! What vending machine doesn't have bottles of water? Especially in summer! I sighed frustrated as I came to terms with the fact that I would have to leave the beauty of the air-conditioning and walk to the store. I made may way back up the stairs and over to Jays desk,
"Jayyyyyy" I asked sweetly
"What?" He asked, raising a suspicious eyebrow in my direction,
"Can I please walk to the store? I'm thirsty and the vending machine doesn't have any water" I explained.
"Fine, but go straight there and come straight back" he instructed,
"I will" I replied honestly,
"Why are you still standing around?" He asked teasingly, I sighed,
"Can I please have some money?" I asked kindly as he smirked at me pulling out his wallet,
"I only have $10" he explained "I'm expecting change" he announced as I bounced down the stairs,
"I know" I shouted back. Ugh, heat. Don't get me wrong, I love the sun, but this? This is just ridiculous! I continued on my short walk to the shops, thinking about how I fully intend to lurk around the freezers for a while to cool down, when I felt a hand cover my mouth and someone drag me in to an alley. I attempted to scream but it wasn't any use. I thrashed around and bit the hand of the person who was holding me.
"Ow, you little bitch" he shouted as he punched me in the face. I screamed as I fell to the ground, already feeling the blood pouring from my cheek.
"Hey!" I heard a voice shout from the street. My attacker panicked and grabbed my bag making a quick run for it, not before he delivered a swift kick to my ribs causing me to momentarily gasp for air.
"Hey, are you ok?" My rescuer asked as he ran in the direction of my attacker but returned when he realised that he was long gone.
"Kelly" I said surprised looking up at the firefighter from my place on the ground,
"Gracie?" He questioned, crouching down in front of me "what the hell happened" he asked placing a hand on my shoulder,
"I don't know" I cried "I was just walking to the store when that guy grabbed me" I explained,
"I'll drive you to the hospital" he offered "do you think you can stand up?" He questioned. I nodded as I slowly stood up with some assistance, gasping as a shooting pain shot through my ribs. With some support from Kelly, he helped me in to his truck and drove me to the hospital.
"Oh my god" I exclaimed In panic "my phone was in that bag, my brothers are gonna go mental" I cried. Kelly smiled at me,
"Hey, it's not your fault" he comforted me "I'm sure they will just be happy that your ok." I sure hope he's right!
We arrived at the hospital and Kelly helped me out of his truck and guided me in to the ER. We where hardly through the door when someone noticed us,
"Gracie, what happened to you?" Natalie asked alarmed as she ushered us in to a cubicle,
"She got mugged" Kelly explained,
"Maggie can you page Dr Halstead and call Jay?" She asked as Maggie nodded giving me a concerned glance. "What hurts?" Nat asked as she began to examine me.
"My ribs are sore and my eye feels really swollen" I explained as I lied back on the bed. Just as I lied back an alarmed looking Will entered the room,
"Gracie are you ok?" He asked as he put a hand on my shoulder, I nodded in an attempt to reassure him, but unfortunately the tears rolling down my cheeks gave away my cool exterior. "Come here" Will wrapped his arms around me as I sobbed in to his chest, "I've got you" he assured with a brotherly kiss on the head.
"I want an X-ray on your ribs and its looking like you might need a couple of stitches on your cheek" Natalie explained as she left the room, sending me a kind smile. Just after Dr Manning left, an alarmed looking Jay entered the room followed by a calmer, but still concerned, looking Antonio.
"Are you ok? What the hell happened?" He asked as his eyes scanned across my body scanning for any obvious injuries. I began to cry again at the sight of my other brother. I don't know why. I'm being so stupid but I just couldn't stop myself! Wills arm tightened around me as Jay grabbed my hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze.
"I don't really know" I began "I was just walking to the store and I was about halfway there when I felt a hand cover my mouth, I tried to get him off of me but he wouldn't let go, so I bit his hand and he got really pissed off and punched me, that's when Kelly saw what was happening" I gestured to Severide who was standing awkwardly in the corner of the room "the guy panicked and kicked me in the ribs" I explained "I'm so sorry, my phone was in that bag and the guy grabbed it an-" my teary rambling was cut off by Jay,
"Hey, we don't care about you phone" he assured "were just happy that your safe" he pulled me in to his side and gave me a kiss on the head.
"Were exactly were you?" Jay asked, I shrugged my shoulders,
"I don't know, I don't really take notice of street names" I admitted, luckily Kelly spoke up,
"We were on West 22nd, the alley between the diner and the bakery" he recalled and Antonio took note,
"Did either of you get a good look at the dude?" Antonio asked, I shrugged my shoulders
"Not really" I admitted "he was white and he was wearing a blue shortsleeved hoodie with the hood pulled up so I didn't really get a good luck at his face" I said, feeling useless,
"How about you?" Antoni asked turning towards Kelly,
"Not really just the same as what Gracie said" he paused "He had a sleeve of tattoos covering his right arm" Kelly recalled. Antoni nodded,
"Ok, I'm gonna go and see if I can pull up any CCTV of this punk from either the diner or the bakery" he announced "I'll see you later hope you feel better sweetheart" he said with a wink as he left.
"I should probably get going too" Kelly announced,
"Thank you so much Kelly" I said gratefully "I don't even want to think of what might have happened if you didn't show up when you did"
"Don't mention it kid, I'm just glad you're ok" he said squeezing my shoulder,
"Seriously man, if you ever need anything" Jay said gratefully shaking Kellys hand,
"Let me know how you are Gracie" he said as he made his way to the open door, I nodded
"I will" I confirmed with a smile
"Thanks man" Will said as he copied Jays earlier action and shook his hand,
"Don't mention it" he said giving us one last smile before he left, bumping in to Dr manning who was on her way in.
"Ready to go up to X-ray hunny?" She questioned with her usual kind smile. I got off the bed with some assistance from Jay but found the pain was to much in my ribs. My legs gave out from under me but I was held up by Jay who was already stood beside me, "I'll grab a wheelchair" Nat announced as she left.
"You ok?" Jay asked concerned as he lowered me in to the wheelchair,
"My ribs are just super painful" I said truthfully with tears in my eyes,
"We'll get this X-ray done and then we'll see about getting you some pain killers,"
"I'll come with you" Will said as he began to push me in the direction of, were I'm presuming, is the X-ray department.
It was now a few hours, and five stitches later, and I was finally allowed to go home. Will had been given the rest of the week off to look after me and, after much persuasion, Jay had gone back to work, no doubt to try and find out who attacked me. I just hope he doesn't do anything stupid. Luckily, my X-rays came back normal and it turns out that my ribs are just extremely bruised, so I've been given some painkillers to try and keep me as comfortable as possible.
The next day I asked Will if he would take me to the fire house to see Kelly. He took some convincing but I managed to get him to take me, with the promise that I would rest as soon as I got back. Perks of having an overprotective brother who's a doctor. Kelly was happy to see me out and about and kept insisting that there was no need for me to thank him. But I did anyway.
It was now later in the evening and Will and I are sat on the sofa with a duvet watching Grown Ups when Jay returned home, pizza boxes in hand.
"I've got good news" he announced as he squished himself in between me and Will "we caught the guy who attacked you" my head shot up,
"Seriously?" I asked shocked
"Yeah, the stupid idiot pulled his hood down as soon as he left the alleyway so we had a clear picture to identify him with" I hugged my brother,
"Thanks Jay" I said, I frowned as I noticed his red knuckles, "what happened to your hand?" I asked concerned,
"Oh erm" he hesitated "I trapped it in the car door." It was clearly a lie but I decided to let it slide. We sat watching movies and eating pizza for the rest of the night until I eventually fell asleep on the sofa. I guess its not to bad having a cop and a doctor in the family.
