TW Death Threat (I'll add another TW before and after the actual content, should you wish to skip it)

George desperately tried to stay quiet as he read through each of the DMs. He'd managed to stop himself from checking them up until Clay went to bed. Now, George layed in bed choking back sobs.

They were right. They were right and George knew it and that made it hurt even more. He curled up on top of the covers, facing the wall, and wrapped one arm around himself. He couldn't see the screen through his tears

Clay could hear George hiccuping from where he was stood in the bathroom. He wasn't sure what to do. He'd already removed his mask and contacts.

But George was more important than his own stupid insecurities. Clay left the bathroom and walked to George's room, not bothering to knock.

George heard the door open and prayed that Clay would think he was asleep, forgetting about his phone clutched in his other hand that was open to another message.

The sight that met Clay was pitiful and he felt his heart ache. With as much courage as Clay could muster, he strode across the room and wordlessly laid down on the bed behind George. He placed a hand on George's back and his frown deepened. George was trembling. Clay wasn't sure what to say.

"Are you okay?" He settled on. George didn't respond and Clay sighed. He slid the hand from George's back to his waist. He let it lay there, rubbing his thumb up and down.

George's breath hitched. He whimpered, barely audible, then reached for Clay's hand. He laced his fingers between Clay's and pulled it around himself to rest over his stuttering heart. Clay shuffled closer as George tipped his chin and pressed his lips to Clay's knuckles. Clay took off his glasses, placed them on the bedside table and nestled his nose into the nape of George's neck.

Clay was just about able to read the message displayed on George's phone before the screen went dark.

(TW//)
@discodreamer: There's no way in hell Dream would like someone like you. You should just leave him alone already, he'd be so much better off without you. Just kys already.
(TW// OVER)

Clay could feel the anger boiling in his blood but he'd deal with that later. Right now, he tilted softly to press a firm, chaste kiss to the base of George's neck.

"They're wrong, Georgie." Clay murmured into the pale skin. "They're wrong."

George pushed further back into Clay's chest and felt Clay tighten the arm around his waist and squeeze his fingers. It still hurt and George wasn't entirely certain they were wrong yet but, wrapped in Clay's arms, it wasn't quite as bad. He could feel his breathing calm.

Clay stayed awake, tracing his thumb up and down George's, until George's breathing evened and he fell asleep. Once he'd decided George wouldn't be waking back up soon, Clay followed George into sleep.

‪I've tried turning a blind eye and ignoring what going on because 'it's just a part of being famous' but this is NOT okay. This shouldn't be something normal. This shouldn't be something that just happens. This is why we don't post about our friends and families. This is why (1)‬

‪We don't share our personal lives with you. You've only known George's social media for a matter of HOURS and he has already received HUNDREDS of DMs containing insults and DEATH THREATS. THIS IS NOT OKAY. George is my best friend and I love him. I am DISGUSTED. With the way (2)‬

‪You have all treated him. I say all, there are a very small amount of people who had the decency to be kind and to respect our privacy and I'd like you to know that this does not apply to you. But to those of you who have pushed my best friend into believing he is not worth (3)‬

‪My time: I am so ashamed of you. You claim to love me and support me and then you turn around and try to get rid of one of the best people in my life. Meeting George was one of the best things to have ever happened to me. You have just proved that we were right to not trust (4)‬

George woke up the same way he fell asleep: wrapped in Clay's warmth. He shifted in order to roll over to face Clay only for Clay to tighten his arm around George, effectively trapping him. "Clay?" George murmured, unsure whether on not the other was awake. Clay hummed, voice an octave higher than usual. "What's wrong?" George asked, softly.

"I..." Clay sighed. He loosened his arm around George's waist, sat up and slipped his glasses back on. Clay kept his eyes screwed shut.

George stayed still for a moment. When it was clear that Clay was waiting on him, George slowly sat up and looked over. George was aware that Clay wore a foundation mask, as most fans were, but he didn't know why.

As George stared in wonder at Clay, he still couldn't figure out why. In place of Clay's clear façade were millions of tiny, dark freckles. They were a stark contrast to Clay's tan skin and littered every inch that George could see. Nestled in between the constellations were small, tinny scars that dotted his skin more sparsely. George felt his breath hitch as he dragged his eyes up to Clay's face.

He'd never found the other so beautiful.

George noticed that Clay's eyes were shut tight behind his glasses and his eyebrows were knitted together. He softly, tentatively, reached one hand to cradle Clay's cheek, the other resting on top of Clay's balled fist.

Clay was terrified. George had said nothing but he had began to stroke his thumb back and forth over Clay's cheekbone. Clay couldn't take the silence anymore and he slowly let his eyes slide open.

He was met by George's kind, warm, fond and slightly awed expression. He felt like crying and he was certain George could tell. He loosened his fist to take George's hand.

Clay couldn't handle the way George made him ache. He lifted his free hand to cup over George's on his face. He turned marginally, letting his eyes fall closed again, to press his lips to the palm of George's hand. George shuddered out a breath.

Clay didn't have the words to tell George how nervous he was so, instead, he brought the one of George's hands that wasn't on his face up to rest over his racing heart.

George could feel the way it hammered, only slightly faster than his own, and his smile widened. "They're beautiful, Clay." George whispered, afraid that he may break the boy in front of him if he spoke any louder. "You're beautiful."

Clay leant in towards George and pressed their foreheads together. He hiccuped and George shushed him fondly.

Clay dropped his head to George's shoulder, jogging his glasses, and George wrapped his arms around Clay. Clay leant into George until they toppled over, Clay landing almost entirely on top of George. George couldn't help but giggle, rubbing circles into Clay's back.

They stayed like that for a while, George's arms wrapped around Clay's shoulders, Clay's arms around George's waist, Clay's leg over both of George's and Clay's face nestled into the crook of George's neck.

Maybe... George thought. Maybe he could want this too, if only a little.

"Sometimes..." Clay began and George hummed, tracing letters into Clay's back and praying he couldn't decipher them. "Sometimes I wish we were normal people." Clay continued.

"Yeah?" George asked, verging on hopefully. Clay nodded into his neck.

"I wish we were normal people so I could take and post cheesy photos of us everywhere." George giggled and traced the word 'photos' onto Clay's back. "I wish we were normal people so that I could take you to Disneyworld and have our biggest worry be the rollercoasters." George traced 'rollercoasters'. "I wish we were normal people so that no one would ever tell you that you aren't worth my time and you'd never believe them if they tried to." George hesitated before he traced 'worth'. "I wish we were normal people so that you could wear my hoodies whenever and wherever you wanted." George giggled and traced 'hoodies'. He decided it was his turn.

"I wish we were normal people too." George cut in but Clay didn't mind. He pressed his nose closer into George's neck.

"You do?" George shuddered at the way Clay's lips grazed his neck when he spoke. He hummed an affirmative.

"I wish we were normal people so I could take you to the Café over and over until you've tried everything there and then keep taking you. I'd steal half every time and you'd let me." Clay chuckled and George traced 'Café' into his back. "I wish we were normal people so I could live in your hoodies." He traced 'hoodies' again. "I wish we were normal people so I could take you to every cheesy place in London and spout facts about them that probably aren't true to you." George traced 'landmarks'. "I wish we were normal people so that I didn't have to miss you when you go on tour." He traced 'travel'.

George hesitated before he said his last wish. "I wish we were normal people so that I could tell the world how much you mean to me." George stayed still for a moment before he traced three words onto Clay's back. 'I love you'.

Clay really hoped he wasn't reading the situation wrong. He prayed to the universe one last time.

"I wish we were normal people so that I could tell you I loved you like normal people do." Clay admitted, moving out of George's neck to watch his face. George turned to face Clay, eyes wide and face red.

"Maybe we can do things like normal people do." George whispered. He traced the three words into Clay's skin like a mantra. Clay looked hopeful.

"Yeah?" He asked, breathlessly. Through the thick lenses, George could see that Clay's pupils were blown wide. He was sure his were just the same despite the sunlight beaming in through the window.

"Yeah." George whispered, bringing one hand from Clay's back up to his face and fondly brushing his hair back. "We could be normal people if we tried." Clay nodded softly for a moment. He was unable to hold in his grin so he settled instead for burying it back into the crook of George's neck.

George smiled up at the ceiling and let his eyes close, content to brush his fingers over Clay's hair and back. Maybe... George thought. Maybe he could like me too, if only a little bit.
