"Wait, that's one of my boxes, it goes in the smaller truck." I said, stopping Lacey from taking one of my boxes of clothes into the house.

"Dang. I thought I was going to be able to sneak that one past you." She said, taking the box over to the uhaul van.

"Now I'm going to have to check your room before I leave."

"Are you and Ethan driving to Los Angeles tonight?" My mom asked, coming out of the uhaul, confused.

"Probably." I said, walking towards the house with the box that I had.

"It's already getting late and we haven't finished sorting out the boxes yet. You probably won't get there before midnight or one am. Why don't you just leave out early in the morning?"

"Grayson's plane is getting in in the morning and we have to go pick him up." I said, not totally the whole truth, but not really a lie. His plane is coming tomorrow, just later in the day.

"You're lying. You're a terrible liar." She said, sitting the box she had on the island in the kitchen and crossing her arms to look at me. "But if you insist on leaving me so soon, I guess I can't stop you."

"I've been on this earth for nearly 21 years now, I'm not going to fall for your pity voice anymore." I said, narrowing my eyes at her.

"Right. You graduate college and suddenly you're an adult ready to take on the world by yourself, without your mother." She sighed. Hold your ground Haley, don't fall for it. "Moving five hours away from your only family on this side of the country. I guess you don't need us anymore."

"Listen, no matter what you say, I'm not changing my mind mama. We've got...plans, and I'm not canceling."

"Right. I had plans with your father 20 years ago too." She smirked. "Speaking of which, now that you've graduated, can we talk about gran-"

"Would you look at that, I'm walking out of this conversation." I said backing up and walking out of the kitchen.

"Wha- Haley." She called after me. "Come back."

"Nope." I yelled walking back out the front door.

I jogged back over to the truck and grabbed another two boxes, just wanting to get the heck back on the road.

"Baby, those boxes are bigger than you." Ethan said, walking the opposite way of me.

"Everything's bigger than me." I sighed. "I'm just trying to get the hell out of here before my mom ends up talking me into having a kid."

"You still should only carry on-" he paused talking for a second. "Excuse me, before she talks you into what?"

"You heard me." I mumbled, walking over the threshold and sitting the boxes on the ground.

"You haven't even started teaching yet." He said, leaning against the doorway.

"Yeah, but I've graduated college." I said, ironically doing jazz hands.

....................

"Alright mama." I said, standing straight up. "That's the last box."

"Are you sure you guys have to leave tonight?" She asked, one last time.

"Yes. We definitely have to go tonight."

"Alright. Well I love you, call me when you get to LA." She said, walking around the island and squeezing me tightly. "Be careful driving."

"We will." I sighed letting go and pushing her away gently.

I walked out the front door and jogged around to the passenger side of the uhaul van.

"Did you make sure my car was in neutral?" I asked, looking at Ethan as I climbed into the seat. We had to switch my car from being pulled but the big truck and rig it up to the new one and if it's not in neutral it'll fuck it up.

"Yes dear." He sighed, turning on the uhaul.

"Dear?" I asked, a little amused. "What are we now, an old married couple?"

"Not yet my dear." He said, grabbing left hand and kissing it.

..............

I locked my phone and sighed, feeling relieved that I would have to be the one to tell him.

"Everything alright?" Ethan asked, glancing over at me quickly before looking back at the road.

"Umm yeah." I sighed. "Grayson may be a little upset when we pick him up tomorrow."

"What, why?"

"Well actually a lot upset." I said, looking at my fingers and picking at them.

"What happened?" He asked again, this time his voice more serious. "Does this have anything to do with what you couldn't about the other day?"

"Umm, yeah."

"So are you going to tell me or not?"

"Well basically, in the past 24 hours, Grayson went from being in a relationship to being single."

"Wait, seriously?" He asked. "What happened?"

"Maybe you should talk to your brother about that one." I said, laying my head against the window because it'd been a long couple of days and I was exhausted. "It's not really my situation to tell you. I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time."

"Did he break up with her or did she break up with him."

"He broke up with her,"  I sighed.

"Seriously, what happened? He was head over heels in love with her."

"Like I said, let him tell you if he wants you to know."

And as if on cue, his phone started ringing.

"Hey bro." Ethan said answering his phone, his voice soft.
"Hey. I'm guessing you know?" I couldn't tell what his emotion was from the sound of his voice.
"Yeah, What the hell happened?"
"I'll tell you about it when I get home." Grayson sighed.
"Okay bro. You know I'm here for you right?"
"Yeah." He Grayson said and sniffled a little. "Speaking of, I got an early flight. It's supposed to land at 12:30am, can you come pick me up?"
"Yeah. You may have to wait a few minutes because the GPS isn't putting us back into LA until 1am." Ethan said, looking down at the navigation system.
"Alright. I'll see you when you get here."
"Okay bro. Bye."
"Bye."

.................

"You know, the front middle seat is only convenient when the other two people aren't giants." I said, scooting over into the middle seat once we got to the airport and were waiting for Grayson to come out.

"Relax. You're small enough it's not going to matter."

"Just because I'm short doesn't mean I'm small. I have hips ya know."

"Oh yeah," he smirked. "I know."

The passenger door opened and Grayson slid into the uhaul, not saying anything. He held his bag in his lap and buckled his seatbelt, laying his head against the window.

I over looked at him and couldn't help but feel an overwhelming amount of sympathy for him.

"How long did you know?" He asked, after about twenty minutes down the road.

"A couple of weeks." I sighed.

"Why didn't you tell me?" He asked, tears brimming in his eyes.

"Would it have felt any better if I would have told you than it did coming from her?" I asked, rubbing his back comfortingly.

"Why didn't you tell him what?" Ethan asked. "What the hell happened?"

"She cheated on me E."
