Chapter 97

●●●

"How do I look?" Brushing his hand one last time over the way too expensive material of the button up he was wearing, Yoongi turned around to Jimin.

"Your hair is such a mess. Let me help you." In just a second Jimin was standing next to him, carefully running his hands through Yoongi's hair, parting it properly. "You suck at styling it yourself."

"Isn't being into styling your hair a gay thing?"

"And fucking you isn't gay? Also it's a rich thing too... there you go. Looks way better." He ran his hands through it one last time, before dropping them by his sides and taking in all of Yoongi's experience. "You look good. I'm surprised my clothes fit you."

"They are a bit loose. I just have broader shoulders than you by nature and you have muscles. It's balanced I guess." He turned back to the mirror once again fumbling around with the fabric of his shirt. He certainly didn't feel the most comfortable in Jimin's clothes but he didn't have much of a choice in this case.

"You sure this looks okay?"

Sighing Jimin wrapped his arms around Yoongi's waist. "Yeah it does. You look really good trust me."

"Do we really have to go?" Yoongi complained.

"We don't have to, but I want you to come with me. You might even have more fun than I will, you know. At least there won't be any gold diggers waiting around every corner for you." Jimin muttered against Yoongi's shoulder before kissing his way up to Yoongi's ear. "Please? Do it for me?"

Yoongi turned around in Jimin's embrace. "I will, you already know. I just feel like they will fucking smell that I don't belong there."

"Most of them smell like they don't belong there. No one is going to say a thing, especially with me and Jessie around." Jimin tried reassuring, before turning Yoongi around again to face the mirror. "Look at yourself." Yoongi did. He was wearing loose black pants, a belt that looked too expensive and a black button up that was straining around his shoulders while flapping ridiculously in the air around his waist.

"You look amazing. Better than 99% of the people there me excluded of course." Jimin joked running his fingers over Yoongi's waist before tucking the loose ends of the buttom up into his pants and smoothing them down. "Trust me on that okay?"

Yoongi let out a sigh. "I do. It's just I hate that kind of crowd."

"It's not as bad as you think. The people who made it to the top are usually either slimy as fuck, psychos or what is the most common intelligent. When you end up involved in a conversation with someone like that it can actually turn out to be fun too." Yoongi could still feel Jimin's hands resting against his waist, during the pep talk. "We're in this together. I will protect you."

Yoongi chuckled. "Thanks. I will protect you against any gold diggers as well as I can."

"And I will protect you against... no idea to be honest. Forced social interactions?"

"Sounds great." Yoongi chuckled, running his hand through his hair one last time. He was fucking nervous about this, but he was sure it was going to work out in the end. "Let's do this."

Not long after they were sitting in Jimin's, still way to expensive car, driving towards one of the outer parts of Seoul. They were listening to one of the tracks Namjoon had recently released.

"So what do I have to expect?" Yoongi asked, leaning back in his seat watching buildings flash by. He still didn't feel the most comfortable in these clothes, but at least he didn't spend every second thinking about it and he had to admit that they were damn comfortable.

"A lot of boring small talk, some adults trying to suck up to me, because they think that I would appreciate that they recognized me even before I made it big, someday and would show my appreciation once I take over, which is bullshit, but they try." Jimin explained. "Oh and tons of gold diggers from smaller families that are trying to make big money by using their connections."

"We'll just avoid them?"

"We'll just avoid them." Jimin agreed. "Let's try to enjoy this as much as such a setting is enjoyable."

They did. Most of the evening was surprisingly more pleasurable than he had expected. He and Jimin just talked to each other about a bunch of different things. Sometimes people joined them. Some just in it for the small talk, some actually striking up conversation. Jimin always kept things at a polite level, but it was fun nevertheless.

They managed to avoid any gold diggers for the most part, aside from a couple of really short conversations in which Jimin's tone switched to cold so quickly that it made even Yoongi uncomfortable. It made sense. Jimin had told him often enough how much he hated this, even though Yoongi couldn't help but think that some of them had even seemed okay characterwise.

Nevertheless he let Jimin rant about it the few times it happened before they went back to their normal topics. Something Yoongi really was glad for, was that Jimin at no point made him feel out of place. Made sure to always involve Yoongi in all the conversations with these rich looking dudes. Never in a forced way, just casual conversation.

"By the way..." Jimin began maybe an hour or two into the evening as he handed Yoongi a drink. "...I told my mother about you."

Yoongi froze in the middle of the process of bringing his glass up to his lips. The whole topic of Jimin's parents and them dating was something he had always felt like Jimin had been mostly avoiding. Of course he had mentioned his parents quite a few times and even told Yoongi about their views... but Yoongi honestly had felt like them dating was something Jimin was avoiding around his parents.

"About me?" He ended up asking a little dumbly. After all he really didn't know what exactly Jimin had told her, but given how relaxed Jimin seemed right now whatever he had said... the conversation couldn't have gone that badly.

"I told her about the fact that I'm seeing a guy. I'm not going to lie and say she seemed quite shocked... but after a while of talking she took it surprisingly well." Jimin took a sip from his drink. Yoongi wondered how he could tell him that so casually right now. It was more than obvious Jimin had grown quite a lot if he was even okay with telling his parents... actually just his mum, but that certainly meant something too.

"Define took it well?"

A man passed them and greeted Jimin. Jimin sent him a short polite smile before turning back to Yoongi. A clear signal of not wanting to talk while being completely respectful... Jimin really had these types of social situations perfectly down.

"She seems pretty split. At one hand she seemed happy about me having found a partner, but on the other hand she said that it certainly could cause some problems for the company if the public heard anything about it." Jimin explained and Yoongi could feel his heartrate pick up a little. He had worried about something like this. Korea wasn't exactly an accepting country and Jimin could make some really big losses because of this.

Lose investors, gain a bad reputation... there were quite a couple of problems, especially with his company being this big.

"I don't care. It's not like I'll have to worry about my income at any point. Surprisingly my mum said the same thing..." For the first time Jimin seemed a little affected. "She said that my happiness was a priority and the company comes second."

Yoongi couldn't help smiling a little. He knew that Jimin felt like his parents didn't really care about him most of the time. Just focused on what he was supposed to be as a son... but maybe that wasn't as true as Jimin believed it to be.

"I'm really happy to hear that... so she's not going to come to me and try to bribe me to leave you like they do in every kdrama." Yoongi joked, feeling so fucking fond when he watched Jimin quickly wipe the corners of his eyes to hide the fact that he was tearing up a little. Some things never changed.

"I really think you're smart enough to not take up that kind of deal. The money she would offer you is pocket change in comparison to what the payout could be if you went for the long game." Jimin punched his shoulder jokingly. "But you can't imagine how relieved I was. Like my dad will probably be a pain in the ass, but at least I have my mum's support. Most people might think it's different, but my mum is the most powerful person in my family. As much as my dad would love for it to be different... my mum has him wrapped around her finger."

Yoongi couldn't help but smile a little at that. "So you think he'll be okay with it too?"

"He'll probably take some time... but yeah I think so. I'm honestly glad I got this over with. I know that of course things could still go wrong and we could split up... but I really believe that there is a good chance that we'll stay together... and I need to plan for that too. Because I had to tell them at some point."

Yoongi nodded. "Still it would have been totally okay if you had taken some more time. I get that this must have been hard."

Jimin let out a breath. "It was hard but I'm glad I did it right away." He leaned forward placing a soft kiss on the corner of his mouth. "I'd rather tell them myself then have the accidentally see something like this."

Yoongi couldn't help sending a worried glance around. No one was watching them, but it still felt off... Jimin was risking so much.

"Are they here too? Your parents I mean?" He searched the area wondering if maybe they were close by.

"Actually my mum said she was going to come by for a bit. I don't know if she's here yet though. But if you're cool with it... I'd kind of like to introduce you two to each other?"

Even though Jimin had told him his mother had told him she was okay with it... he could feel a bit of dread fill his stomach. After all just because she had said that she was okay with it didn't mean she was supportive. He wasn't her son. He was the guy that had turned her son to the 'bad side'.

"I don't know if that's such a good idea... is she actually okay with it or is she just accepting it, because she feels like she has no other choice?" He ended up asking, trying to hide how nervous he was by taking another sip. He had expected a little bit of annoying social interactions... not meeting his boyfriend's mother.

"I really don't think she has a problem with me being queer... she just didn't expect it and worries about what I might have to face in the future. But I don't think she has any problems with you. She even asked about you... about the kind of person you are."

"What did you tell her?"

"About how we met and just... I was pretty honest with her. I told her that I didn't think I could be interested in a guy but nevertheless ended up falling in love with you. Just some things I thought were important and as she asked the kind of person you are."

Yoongi raised an eyebrow. "And what kind of person am I?"

"First that's too embarrassing to tell you to your face... and I can't remember what exactly I said. I think I was mostly gushing about how great and cool you are." Jimin giggled, shaking his head at himself.

Yoongi didn't know how to feel. On one hand it made him happy to hear Jimin talk this positively, but he was nevertheless scared of meeting Jimin's mother. It was just... not that simple. Maybe she would be accepting but it still made him anxious. He didn't want to make a bad first impression.

"I'm not sure if I'm ready to meet her yet, if I'm honest. This is already exhausting enough as it is." Yoongi sighed, expecting Jimin to try to convince him or something... but he didn't. Instead he patted Yoongi's shoulder before reassuringly squeezing it.

"Don't stress about it. We'll have plenty of opportunities in the future." Jimin pulled at Yoongi's arm, dragging him towards the house. "But if you don't want to meet her then we have to walk somewhere else because I'm pretty certain that I just saw her car drive by." Jimin laughed. Yoongi could feel warmth build up in his stomach... Jimin was there for him.

Yoongi found himself calming down a little more as the evening progressed. Jimin kept an eye out for his mother just to make sure they wouldn't run into her on accident and Yoongi found that the longer they were there, the smaller his anxiety towards meeting Jimin's mother seemed to grow.

It had been pretty damn scary at first, especially because he hadn't had any time to mentally prepare himself. Jimin just told him he had spoken to his mother out of nowhere and that had been positively terrifying in a way... but now, especially because he was a little tipsy from the drinks Jimin kept handing him... it didn't seem as scary anymore.

He was pretty sure Jimin's mother had to be intelligent. Jimin was intelligent even if at times, he could be quite dumb too... but it was obvious that he was good at what he did and what he knew.

Jimin's parents were the ones that had built that company so they had to be just as smart if not even smarter than Jimin and most of the time Yoongi had an easier time talking to people that were intelligent rather than not.

Some man that Jimin seemed to know, had just left when Yoongi found the courage to finally say what he had been contemplating for at least half an hour now. Rather get it over than draw out his suffering any longer.

"I think I want to meet your mother after all... we... don't have to talk too long right?"

Jimin smiled reassuringly taking his hand. "Just as long as you want to. We can leave any time."

"Jimin!" The first thing Yoongi noticed were the blatantly obvious similarities between Jimin and his mother. The full lips, the way her eyes crinkled up when she smiled and her sharp eyes. Not exactly scary or threatening sharp... just clearly attentive.

Aside from that she was a beautiful woman. Long black hair that was carefully styled to fall over her shoulders in soft waves. She was wearing a bit of make up but not too much and her clothes looked just as expensive as they probably were. An almost simple looking blue dress, that had glittery stones covering her chest area which Yoongi was pretty sure were really diamonds.

She turned to face Yoongi and seemed almost confused for a second before her mouth opened in surprise. "You must be Yoongi. I'm Jihee park. Jimin's mother." She smiled and to Yoongi's surprise it seemed genuine.

He bowed slowly, not really quite sure what to say. "Min Yoongi, it's nice to meet you."

When he lifted his head again, he found her taking in his appearance before her eyes landed on his face. He felt like she was staring straight into his soul, but whatever she found she seemed content because just seconds later she was smiling again.

"I hope you two are having fun here." Yoongi felt like he was being impolite just looking at her... it felt like staring, but it was hard not to get distracted by how perfectly she had applied her lipstick.

"As much fun as these events can be." Jimin muttered. "Yoongi certainly makes it a little more endurable."

"That's good to hear. Did Jessie find you two already? I think she was looking for you earlier." Yoongi felt Jimin reassuringly squeezing his hand. Jimin could probably sense how nervous Yoongi was.

"No we haven't seen her yet. I think we'll go look for her as soon as we're done talking to you." Jimin answered and Yoongi was glad that he didn't have to be the one to answer. Where had that confidence gone he had worked so hard on building up. It was at times like these that he felt almost like a little child, that didn't know what to say or how to fit in. He really wasn't a fan of this feeling, but he knew it would be over again soon. Meeting Jimin's mum for the first time was just scary.

"I think that's a good idea but she'll have to wait a bit. Actually I need to kidnap you for a few minutes. I need to introduce him to a new client of ours. I hope that's okay with you Yoongi?" Yoongi felt like a deer caught in the headlights. He hadn't expected to be asked for permission like this. It wasn't like he had any control over what Jimin did at all.

"Of course. Jimin isn't just here for fun after all. If it was just for that I doubt this would be the first location of choice to have fun in, for either of us." Yoongi only realized what he had said once he had said it, but to his relief Jimin's mother didn't seem offended at all. Instead she laughed.

"I can imagine that. So Jimin? Are you okay with leaving your boyfriends side for a few minutes?"

Jimin sent Yoongi a quick glance, before answering with an amused chuckle. "Not really, but I don't think I have much of a choice in that matter."

His mother patted his shoulder. "You really don't. Your boyfriend already gave his permission, so you're coming with me." She turned back around to Yoongi who had just watched the interaction between the two of them with curious eyes. Jimin's mother seemed pretty cool overall. Still a little scary, but Yoongi could tell from the way she interacted with Jimin and the way she smiled, that he probably didn't have to worry too much.

"Oh and Yoongi. I know Jimin wouldn't let me have any say in who he dates anyways, but I just want to say that I think you're doing him good. You might only know him like this, but it's been a while since I've seen Jimin smile the way he does when he talks about you... so make sure to keep him happy, okay?"

That sure was a lot of pressure... but Yoongi felt like he could do that. If anything he was sure he could make Jimin happy, no matter how hard it could be.

"I promise."

He watched as they walked into the building, while he stayed outside, feeling the tension wash from him. This had been quite unnerving. Jimin's mother was an intimidating, even if friendly woman.

To distract himself from his still racing heart he pulled his phone from his pocket to check for notifications. Not that he usually got many, but at least Namjoon kept sending him small messages every once in a while asking how everything was going. Sometimes even checking in on Jimin and how he was too. Yoongi was glad that Namjoon finally seemed to have dropped his prejudices towards Jimin.

"Hey."

His eyes met with a girl, probably a bit younger than he was. She was wearing a wide shirt that showed off impressive cleavage and tight pants in addition to high shoes. She was about as tall as Yoongi with them.

"Hey." Yoongi greeted her back, his eyes scanning over her face. She was pretty, certainly knew her way with makeup too.

"My name is Soo-kyun." She smiled. She was good at smiling, but it didn't reach her eyes. "What is yours?"

"Min Yoongi." He watched as she obviously searched her memory if she had ever heard his name. It was interesting how right Jimin had been about every description he had given about these types of girls. It was almost spot on.

"Who are you here with?" She tried again and Yoongi was just about to answer that he was just friends with the Park family, when a way too familiar voice interrupted them.

"Fuck off Soo-kyun. If I don't get to fuck him, you certainly won't either." Jessie slipped between the girl and Yoongi, blocking her view on him. After a couple of seconds of simply standing there the girl turned around, clearly annoyed and moved to a different spot in the garden.

"Yoongi good to see you." Jessie grinned. Apparently Yoongi wasn't going to have to look for her. "Where did you leave Jimin?"

"Jimin left me, not the other way around. His mother wanted him to meet someone." Yoongi sighed, pushing his hair out of his eyes just to realize that he had probably ruined the hair Jimin had so carefully styled before. Just that moment he spotted Jimin's mother making her way over to them, a glass in her hand.

"Hey Jessie, I see you found Yoongi." She turned to face Yoongi. "Jimin had to go to the bathroom, but he should be back soon." She explained pointing vaguely in the direction of the building. "I still have a few people to say hello to and I need to hurry up because I need to be somewhere after this, but it was nice meeting you Yoongi and I hope we'll be able to properly talk - maybe over some tea - sometime soon!"

And then she was gone again, talking to a group of rich looking older guys. Well it wasn't like everyone did look expensive. Well everyone but Jessie it seemed. She was wearing plain jeans and a thrasher t-shirt. Yoongi only realized now.

"Should you be walking around here like that?" He asked, pointing at her outfit choice. It was funny how she usually dressed to impress but certainly not right now, when it was actually a situation where she was supposed to do it.

"My parents are forcing me to be here, so I will do everything to piss them off." She explained shrugging her shoulders before sipping on the glass of champagne that had seemingly appeared out of nowhere in her hand.

"Isn't that bad reputation wise?" He asked actually curious. It didn't make much sense that Jessie wouldn't care how those people she might end up working with saw her.

"Do I look like I care about reputation. I don't intend to take over my parent's company when my folks are too old. I'll sell it or something. I have enough money to never lift a finger in my life again anyways and am not interested in what they do at all, so why would I put even more of an effort in. I hate this high society bullshit."

That certainly was surprising. Jessie hadn't mentioned anything like that before, but she did have a point. Why would she have to do what her parents were doing if she didn't want to.

"Do you really just want to sell it?"

"Probably not. Just have someone else manage it. I still have my stocks on it. Those are more than enough to get by with. I don't know what I will do, but I think I'll just try around with different jobs. Money opens many gates, when it comes to things like that." She explained, downing her drink in one gulp. "Jimin's coming."

Yoongi turned around and indeed, Jimin was stalking towards them, looking like all life had been drained from him. In dramatic exhaustion he threw his arms around Yoongi before sagging against him.

"I swear to god I'm not with you for one second and these gold diggers start cornering me. I'm not leaving your side for another second."

"Do that." Yoongi chuckled, patting Jimin's arm. "I'll protect you again okay?"

"Good. Ufff I'm tired." Jimin could feel him lift his head. "Oh. Hey Jessie." He'd just now noticed her presence apparently. He really had to be tired.

"Is Taehyung here too? I need to ask him about Japan."

"No he isn't. Is it about the hot springs?" Yoongi raised an eyebrow at Jessie's question. He had no idea what the two of them were talking about.

"Yeah."

"Tell me once you two have talked."

"I will."

Yoongi turned towards Jimin. "What are you talking about?"

"Will tell you once Tae and I talked. It's not cast in stone yet. I'll tell you once we're sure we're actually gonna do it."

Yoongi was about to interject when he heard his name. Glancing around he spotted Jimin's mother who was waving at him. Next to her, stood a middle aged man, probably a bit younger than her who was smiling in a friendly manner.

"Please tell me that's not your father." Yoongi whispered towards Jimin, who lifted his head before shaking it. "It's not. He looks familiar though. If she's calling for you, you should probably go talk to her."

"For that you'll have to let me go first." Yoongi chuckled, but Jimin only held on tighter. "Never."

"You can come with me, but please stop choking me."

Reluctantly Jimin let go and followed Yoongi as he made his way over to the two of them.

"So as I said this is Yoongi. Yoongi this is Jung san. I told him a bit about you." She explained and Yoongi could feel his face twist in confusion. What would Jimin's mother have to tell about Yoongi, maybe aside from the fact that he was dating her son, which he really doubted for various reasons.

"I don't understand."

"Jimin told me you write songs as a hobby. Jung is a producer and he would be willing to listen to a couple of your songs. You could exchange contacts and set up a proper meeting."

Yoongi just stood there, not knowing what to say. Jimin hadn't told him he had told his mother anything about the fact that he had played around a little with music. He couldn't believe that this was happening. He really couldn't. And then he felt Jimin's hand around his waist reassuringly squeezing and when he made eye contact Jimin was smiling widely.
