My turn is coming. I am excited and nervous. I anxiously eavesdrop on customer orders, mentally preparing myself for the moment.
"Hi, may I get a medium, French vanilla?" Three more ahead of me.
"I'll get a medium hot chocolate and a muffin." Two.
"Medium coffee, I'll have it dark. Thank you." One.
"Medium iced coffee please." One.
"I'll have a medium iced coffee too." Still one.
"Since they are all having a medium iced coffee, I might as well too." Still one!
"Well, since all of you are having an iced coffee, I'll have ... a medium coffee double-double please.", says a boy in high volume.
This is it. This is it!
The next few seconds felt like an eternity. By now, my heart is pumping like mad. This is the moment I've been waiting for since I was made. I am completely lost. I don't know what to do. What can I do? Only one thing occupies my mind right now - who is going to be with me?
In one swift motion, the server picks me out of the stack, flips me around, and puts me on the coffee and sugar dispenser. Two drips of cream, two drips of sugar, the coffee.
I am dressed. I am ready to meet my love. On to the pickup counter I go.
