Kate tried to jump off the roof of Blackwell Academy and kill herself because of everyone bullying her, because of the video. Maybe Rachel had gotten into a situation like Kate and had a video leaked too? Maybe she got bullied as well and tried to commit suicide too, and was successful. No one knows what happened to Rachel so she wouldn't have done it publicly like Kate tried to do (wether u chose to save her or not) and that's where she went, and maybe she really wasn't kidnapped after all. And she was dead. (although lots of me is convinced she was kidnapped and Frank had something to do with it, he seems to play a bigger role in the scenario then he does as of episode 3) So maybe it was a better idea to not have Max Caulfield save Kate Marsh so that you could see how it plays out without her, and see if it makes sense if she was Rachel Amber.
