November 10, 1994.
"im quite offended actually"
"mark put you in charge and not me?"
"well maybe it's because we haven't seen you for what? three weeks"
"what's up with that anyways?"
"i was on only nights for three weeks and when i finally got days everyone else had nights"
"well, you're back now, we missed you"
it was later and i was walking down the hallway when i saw carol.
"carol, i haven't seen you in ages" i exclaimed
"how are you?"
"i'm good, planning on moving in with tag actually" she smiled
"oh really, that's wonderful"
"yeah, i'm really happy about it"
"we're moving along pretty well"
i was dealing with a potential appy.
"my stomach, it has been in excruciating pain for the past three days"
"why didn't you come into the er sooner?"
"i don't know, i thought it was something i ate" my patient said defensively.
"he has a fever" carol pointed out
"i'll get benton down here"
i dialled the phone to page benton
he was just down the hallway
"what is it?"
"31 year old male, complains of excruciating pain in the lower right back for the past three days, has a fever and flushed skin, it's clear that this is appendicitis"
benton pressed on his stomach and back. he just about jumped off of the gurney.
"perfect, thanks y/n"
"no problem"
it was late afternoon and let me tell you, the er was swamped. doug was going nuts, and everyone was scrambling around.
"still trying to get a hold of mark?"
"i swear to god i will go over there and kill that man with my bare hands"
"sorry i asked"
"he's a fake!" doug exclaimed
"having sex while i'm on the phone"
"really? that doesn't sound like a mark sort of thing to do" i raised an eyebrow
it was later and things had cooled down until a double trauma came in. benton insisted that he was fine though so i watched from the side.
"i'll be right back carter"
benton went to the other room.
carter had no idea what to do so i stepped in. you couldn't blame him, he was a med student
"i said not yet" i heard doug yell from the other room.
"that son of a bitch"
benton came back in
"dr. l/n, we have it handled here" he shouted
i rolled my eyes.
"he didn't get that fellowship did he?" i mumbled
"no" carter said
"explains everything i guess"
after almost 12 hours on my feet, i was finally off.
doug was also off.
"i don't think i make a bad boss"
i laughed
"what?" he smirked
"i didn't say anything"
"you're just bitter because you weren't in charge"
"oh please" i groaned
"plans for thanksgiving?" he asked after a couple moments of silence.
"not really, don't have family here"
"i'm working the night shift anyways" i added
"the hospital really screws you over"
