iris was currently on the phone to her dad sobbing. like uncontrollably sobbing. she had called him to tell him she needed to release a single which really wasnt a big deal or something to sob over but the second she heard her dads voice she just started to cry. secretly deep down she knew that she only called him to hear his voice.
she had called him a few times since she has been in la but as he started to talk about how his birthday was the guilt of her not being there took over her
"ri hey ri ur good babe i need u to calm down" harry said trying to comfort ri over the phone "is clem or lia there" he carried on trying to figure out a way to calm her down
"no they ran to the store" she said still sobbing and taking a breath between her words. she has been so exhausted these past few weeks with jetlag and being at the studio etc that she figures its all catching up to her and making her have a mental breakdown
"ri i really need u to calm down u need to breathe babe" harry said as he swiped up from the call, staying on it but so it wouldnt take up his whole screen as he went onto instagram and typed up iris' instagram before scrolling to the first post he could see and finding matts username in the comments.
he wouldnt usually do this not wanting to impose in iris' or georges life but considering he had already tried to text lia and clem and they hadnt responded matt was the last option in his mind and as he could still hear his daughter hyperventilating over the phone he didnt give a fuck in that moment
"ri ur okay ur gonna be okay" he restated hoping that the words would get through to her but he knew in moments like these she can only get snapped out of it by physical touch and the fact that he wasnt there to help her in that moment made him on the verge of tears.

harry was still on the phone to ri as matt sent his last message, "dad" iris said crying through the phone still trying to catch her breath, her crying had now turned into more hyperventilating and having a panic attack because she felt like she couldnt breathe. this situation had happened maybe 10 times in ri's life, she couldnt ever explain how it happened because each time it was like one thing would set her off and she just couldnt stop crying even if it was for no reason. usually during times like these harry or george would be there to calm her down
matt had was walking to the car the second he saw the first line in harrys message, he hadnt had time to digest that harry styles had just messaged him but he didnt care at that point he wanted to make sure ri was okay. he arrived outside the apartment block that the girls airbnb was in before going up to ri's level and opening the door. as he was opening the door he checked his phone to see if harry had messaged to say he didnt need to go anymore thinking that maybe ri had calmed down but after seeing no message it only made him unlock the door faster
once he had entered the apartment he immediately made his way to iris' room where he could still hear her crying through the door, he walked down the corridor and towards ri's room. her room was dimly lit as she hated overhead lighting and had bought fairy lights a few days ago from target so her room is more cosy
"ri hey" he said in a gentle tone as he opened the door slowly not wanting to scare her. he walked over to the bed before sitting on the edge looking down at her as she was now sat with her back against her bed frame with her legs tucked up to her chest woth her phone on her bedside table which was still on the phone to harry "can i hug you" he said not wanting to cross boundaries in a moment like this
all iris could do was nod, he slid himself off the bed and onto the floor infront of her before pulling her into his chest not saying a word. immediately iris gelt all the tension in her body leave. all the anxiety, the guilt of missing her dads birthday left. she was still crying but it was more just her eyes were leaking she wasn't physically sobbing anymore she was just trying to catch her breathe
"ri breathe ur okay" matt said as he laid his head on top of hers and slowly running his fingertips down her arms knowing that when he has panic attacks a way to bring him out if it is by doing the action himself
as the room went silent matt could hear a faint voice of what sounded like a man when he all of a sudden realised ri mustve still been on the phone to her dad. he grabbed the phone off the bedside table before taking a deep breath realising he is about to speak to ri's dad
"hi harry" matt said as he put the phone up to his air and spoke into it "hi matt is ri okay" harry said wanting to get straight to the point
"im not sure shes calmed down but she hasnt spoke to me yet" matt said as he looked down at the girl whose face was now buried in his hoodie
"okay, she may not speak for a few minutes just give her time, i want to say thank you for going round there it was a lot to ask when u were probably busy" harry said sighing feeling bad that he probably pulled the boy from whatever he was doing
"no its all good dont worry about it" matt said disregarding the fact that he got the instagram dms notification as he was filming a youtube video. which he immediately told nick and chris what had happened and what harry had texted as they told him to go and to update them later feel worried about the girl who had become one of their bestfriends
"okay im gonna go but please can u make sure she calls me or texts me later" harry said knowing that matt had her and she would be okay
"yeah of course" matt replied instantly knowing the girls dad must be worried still being across the world
"okay thank you matt bye" harry said as matt also said bye before ending the call and place iris' phone back on the nightstand as he turns his attention back to iris who had yet to say a word
"im embarrassed now" she tried to laugh but ended up kind of crying at the same time "ri dont be embarrassed, im not judging you im here to help" matt said wanting ri to not feel like she had to hide from him
iris felt comfort into the words and hugged into matt more feeling at peace than she did 15 minutes ago
"wanna lay on the bed im sure youre uncomfortable right now" matt said trying to make sure the girl was as comfortable as possible
"sure" she whispered with a croaky voice being exhausted from the day she had and had been crying
matt stood up first grabbing her hands so he could pull her up with him too, he took of his shoes before laying on the bed as ri flopped on beside him
he sat up and grabbed the blanket that was at the end of the bed before pulling it over them and pulling iris back into his chest
"do u wanna talk about what happened" matt said in a gentle tone hoping she would know she doesnt need to tell him but hes there if she wants too.
"i was gonna call dad because i was told i needed to announce a single tonight or tomorrow for it to come out on friday and so i kinda had anxiety about that i dont know why i just get that way before releasing anything. and then when i heard dads voice i remembered the fact that i wasnt there today and i just felt really guilty so all of that made me cry and then i was crying so bad, i think i had a mental breakdown but anyways i was crying so bad that i felt like i couldnt breathe so then i had a panic attack about that. so all in all i was just a hot mess and it was embarrassing considering i cried over nothing" iris ranted as a tear fell down her face and onto matts hoodie that was covering his arm as he had his arm under her neck laying in his side looking at her
"ri im so serious dont be embarrassed. im not judging you in any way shape or form so u truly have no reason to be embarrassed." matt said with certainty as he ran his hand through her hair comforting her so she would understand his words
"where are clem and lia" he asked wondering where her friends are
"they went to the store but before they went clem said her phone was on low battery and theyve gone to target so i doubt there is any service thats why dad probably couldnt get hold of them" iris said not feeling an ounce of anger towards her best friends. she loved them girls so much
"oh okay, do u wanna nap its like 10pm tho so u will probably sleep until the morning" matt said still having the girl wrapped up in his arms not planning on leaving anytime soon
"i need to post to say my song is coming out on friday and then ill sleep but u dont have to stay if u need to go back home i dont mind" iris whispered wanting him to stay but not wanting to keep him from what he was doing before he came round
"ri i van see its stressing u out ur whole body just tensed when u said u need to post about it, why dont u just sleep and post it tomorrow, they said that u can post it today or tomorrow and also ill stay ri i dont mind, we were filming for wednesdays video but we had literally only done the intro and its only monday so we have tomorrow to film it they will understand" matt said with certainty knowing his brothers wouldnt mind if they waited to film the video tomorrow
"okay" iris sighed giving in to the exhaustion "lets sleep" she said smiling up at matt who smiled back before she rested her head back on his arm and started to fall asleep
