Matthew!!!
Just in time before the knife could reach Matthew, I hit the button just below him. I didn't even notice there was one before, it just happened at the last minute, and it was a fifty fifty decision. How the idea to hit that button came is beyond me, but I just knew something told me to try.
The bastards knew what they were doing when they told me to pull out the knife or my friend dies at the given time, they just wanted to keep me occupied with trying to to pull out the knife from it hold rather than try to look for a way to free Matthew from his chains, they were just playing me, they knew I didn't have enough time to figure out how to remove the knife, my focus should have been on freeing Matthew from his chains before the time up.
Matthew tried to catch his breath and I could just imagine what was going on in his mind, I just couldn't believe I was mere seconds from losing my best friend and it was right before my eyes but luckily I could do something about it. Those losers.
I turned to look at the knife which was now stuck to the wall, to think that it could have been stuck to my best friend's head, it wouldn't have been a pleasant sight.
"Am sure you just saw your life flash right before your eyes" I said as a way of elevating the mood, with the near death experience, we both needed humor even if our present situation didn't call for it.
"Tell me about it, damn that was one thrilling experience, damn girl, I knew you were a dump ass," at his words I chuckled, he could just say smart, but I guess that would cut his tongue off.
...."but I didn't know you were this dumb, like how the hell did you know there was a button there and just at the last minute? I sure would have had my brains licking out if you didn't hit that button," he said as he turned to look at me from where he was on the floor, and I could see the sincere appreciation in his eyes, if there was anyone who should be grateful, it's me, I got him into this situation and almost got him killed, I should be grateful that he is here by my side, I don't know what I would have done without him. Rather than giving him any answer, I sent him a wink which made him chuckle.
We were both on the floor trying to calm ourselves down when we heard the door opening, we didn't need to check who it was because his dark aura already filled the room, it follows him like a shadow or should I say a dark cloud since am sure even his shadow would be ashamed to be attached to such an evil person. I heard his footsteps approaching till they stopped beside me.
"I see you were able to save your friend, how interesting," he said with a tone to his voice I didn't like at all, he was also acting like he didn't know what went on in this room, I could tell he was watching us the whole time enjoying our suffering, there's an annoying tone to his voice, it was like he was happy Matthew is still alive, what is this? Was someone's life a game to them, am sure he already had a list of how to make us suffer.
He thinks he has the power, just you wait and see, you'll pay for everything you've done, that's a promise.
"You know maybe I made it a little easy, that's the last easy thing you'll be getting from me," he said with so much seriousness that the only thing I wanted to do was scratch his eyes out, I didn't even acknowledge his presence and I could tell Matthew didn't want anything to do with him either, if he was trying to get any reaction from me, he was sure wasting his time.
"Ignoring me are we?" The devil himself asked, if he thinks he'll get a word from me, he must be joking.
"Well, since you don't want to speak to me, I guess you'll like to speak to someone else," that got my attention, but I still didn't utter a word.
"Wouldn't you like to know who it is?" I turned to glare at him because he was beginning to annoy me,
"Ahh I see I got your attention,... Send her in," he said, but I was sure that wasn't directed to me.
The door was opened and I turned my attention to it to see who just walked in, not like I was surprised. After all, my own mother is one of the reasons I am here. I should at least know her reason, I deserve that much.
"I'll just leave you to enjoy yourself, I'll be back since you'll be missing me," the bastard said as he threw a wink my way before exiting the room.
The room was left in silence and one could definitely hear a pin drop, I could feel Matthew's eyes on me and I could understand him without looking that he was asking if I was okay, after all it's not everyday that your own mother betrays you, sell you out and don't give a care about it. Seeing that I've had enough I decided to break the silence first.
"Faking your own death wasn't enough for you, now you decided to team up with the enemy, you sure have good acting skills, you should take it as a career," I didn't even try to hide the bitterness in my voice, how could I not, the woman I've loved and cherished all my life was a fake, someone who would fake her own death and give her own daughter to be tortured is that even possible? Does she have feelings at all? What about motherly love? How could she watch all these happen and do nothing?!!
"How could you do this to your own daughter?!! I asked in anger, at this point nothing made sense at all, there was something she wasn't telling me.
"You're not my daughter?!!! You're just a stupid mistake that was never meant to happen" she screamed at me in anger, in an instance Matthew was by my side, as much as I pretended that those words didn't hit me, I was just fooling myself, it hit really hard, those words hurt. I couldn't say a thing, I just held onto Matthew tightly, my own mother just called me a stupid mistake, That was all she saw me to be.
"You were never supposed to happen, you ruined everything, you and your stupid father, that horrible man killed the love of my life, the day I found out I was pregnant for you and you didn't belong to the man I love I was devastated," she continued to hit me more.....
"If you hated me that much then why didn't you just kill me all those years? Why did you pretend to love me?" I asked hoping she didn't mean all those hurtful things she just said.
"Kill you? Hmm you don't think I didn't think of doing that? I so wanted to do that, but I was watched at all corners, so I had to play the sweet perfect mother until the perfect opportunity came and I couldn't waste it, I couldn't waste anymore time on you,"
"Really? Your sweet lover, who was he? You seem to value him a lot," I asked her as I stood from where I had been sitting on the floor, if I want the truth, I'll have to face her, Matthew tried to hold me down but I gave him a warning glare, I couldn't hide in his arms forever, life is cruel, I've learnt that many times, life isn't a bed of roses.
"Hmmm, I guess your dear father didn't tell you,"...... Tell me what? I asked myself.
"I see. So he didn't tell you he had a twin? Oh he didn't, your expression says it all. Your father is an evil bastard,....
"Don't you dare talk about my father like that." I Interrupted her before she could say more spiteful things about my father.
..... "Getting protective are we? I haven't even started and you're acting this way, wait till you hear the whole story," The woman standing in front of me didn't look anything like my sweet mother I've always had in my heart, but in front of me stood an angry woman, a woman who wants revenge and didn't care what it takes to get it, her cold expression says it all.
"I was in love with your father's brother, we were two couples young and in love, we were so in love that we didn't know there was a monster lurking in the dark, watching our every move with jealousy and anger, am sure you've put two and two together so you must know this monster, as I was saying, we didn't give a care in the world, it was just two of us, nobody else mattered, we had our lives planned, we wanted children. We were so happy"
...... " But your father had other plans, he ruined everything!! Although they were identical twins I could always tell them apart, I knew the man I love, his green eyes that brought me calm was always a give away, he was calm and gentle, unlike your father who wanted everything by force, if he couldn't get something, he always had an evil plan. If only I knew, I always saw him as someone who was to be my brother-in-law, nothing more, so I gave him that respect, but I didn't know he had other intentions. Your father was jealous of his brother because their father wanted Marko to be in charge of everything even if he was the second son, that didn't sit well with your father so he was so envious and angry, but he pretended well, he acted like he didn't care about the position as long as his brother was in charge, his true colors eventually came out when their father died,........
"The bastard had everything planned out. One day Marko went on a trip because he had work to take care of, there was so much work for him to do since their father died. I was lonely in the mansion without him and your father took advantage of my loneliness, he came to me as a friend and he seemed like someone I could talk to, after all he was my fiance's brother, so I trusted him, we had few drinks and after that the only thing I felt were hands on my body, they were unwanted, they felt wrong."
All these things she was telling me were just making me confused, I didn't know if she was telling the truth, my father wasn't here that I could ask him, how could I possibly trust someone who has been lying to me for a very long time, but I just couldn't say anything, not a word because my mind was a mess. But she didn't stop there, she continued her lies.
...... "I couldn't bring myself to tell Marko what had happened so I kept it a secret because I knew the moment Marko found out, they'll kill themselves, Marko and I promise to wait till marriage, he was a gentleman he never once tried to force me for anything, then imagine how he would feel if he found out I was pregnant for his brother, it would be horrible, he would be devastated, Marko noticed changes in me but I just told him I was sick and would be okay, I lied to him!!! Your father didn't stop there! He killed Marko and claimed it to be an accident, but I knew better, the audacity!!..... Then imagine how I felt giving birth to you, Do you think I could have possibly loved you?!! You're a worthless monster and I hate you!!"
"You've said enough, I am glad that she isn't your daughter, because no one would want a horrible woman like you for a mother." Matthew said in utter rage, from his voice I could tell he had been controlling his anger, his speaking meant he couldn't take it anymore, he was quiet because he knew I wouldn't want him to get involved, but the best friend in him came alive.
"You heard him, I don't want to hear anything from you again,"
"You think I want to waste my precious time on you, I just want you to know this before I leave, I will get revenge and make sure that he pays for all he had done, and I have just the right person to do that for me," she said before she turned away from me making her way to the door, but just as she got to the door she stopped and turned back to me,
"Oh and I'll be sending your dearest daddy a gift soon, you should get ready,"........
