Loona’s shadow selves represent the darker or repressed parts of them that they need to face in order to accept love into their lives and join the other LOONA girls.
- This manifests in different ways in the girls; for Haseul, it is the white bird that wishes to stay in peaceful ignorance; for Vivi, it is her insecurity and feeling different or other from the ⅓ girls because she’s an android; for Yeojin, it is her childish and selfish nature that keeps her from kissing the frog and accepting the truth and growing up.
- In Heejin, her ‘shadow self’ are the parts of her that are too ambitious or prideful, parts of her that want to create a “perfect” universe; her god complex, to simplify it. This is what causes her to create Eden, wanting to achieve perfection. But in her video, she overcomes her shadow self, realizing that love and authenticity are what life worth living, not material perfection.
- Sometimes the shadow self manifests physically (like the black and white Heejin ordering around maid Heejin in her mv), and sometimes it’s just an inner battle within the member, but to come together LOONA must face their shadow selves.
- This spreads the larger message LOONA wants to spread, which is to conquer your own shadow selves and accept love into your lives! We love narrative themes!
