a/n: I just want to disclaim here that I made Odin "evil" so sorry but that is the beauty of fanfiction isn't it? lol

The next morning, Sage wasted no time in heading for the palace. It's not like she had anything other than sulking in her own anguish to do for the day, and most importantly, she had to sort the contents of Loki's letter out.

She fumbled with her wool shawl, draping part of it over her head to conceal her face. Although the sun had not fully risen yet and the sky was an arrangement of different hues of purples and blues, there were people out and about in town. Some were picking up debris, reconstructing destroyed houses or business. Most of the buildings were more than halfway done being repaired from the aftermath of the war. None of them seemed to pay her any attention as she walked by.

Sage's mind once again was clouded with thoughts about the King, Loki, and the future. Her gaze was focused straight ahead. She could see the gates of the palace from where she was. It stood tall and proud, amongst the recovering ruins of Asgard. She was too busy gawking at it to notice the little girl in her way before it was too late.

Before the poor little girl could fall to the pavement, Sage steadied her by the shoulders. "I'm so sorry," she immediately apologized, not wanting any trouble.

The little girl smiled shyly, messing with a long strand of her bright blonde hair. "It's okay, Miss-Oh! Your eyes." She exclaimed as she looked up at Sage.

Her dark brown eyes widened in bewilderment and amazement as she noticed Sage's mismatched eyes. "They're very pretty."

"Sandara!"

"Goodbye!" The little girl, Sandara, shouted. She waved at Sage and ran toward where her mother stood, waiting impatiently at the doorway. The cold, protective look sent Sage's way did not go unnoticed and neither did Sandara's mom's muttering. "You know better than to talk to strangers, Dara. I never want to see you speaking to any strangers, especially that lady. She's nothing but-"

Sage quickened her pace, not wanting to overhear anything else. She could feel her heart beginning to race, daring to fly out. Deep breaths, deep breaths. Old memories were forced in her mind to preoccupy her thoughts. Deep breaths, deep breaths. But it was too late.

Her thoughts seemed to freeze, coming to an instant stop and an overcasting shadow began to form, clouding over her eyes until there was nothing but darkness. It consumed her, forcing her eyes shut for a moment.

When she opened them, she knew was no longer standing on the pavement of one of Asgard's streets but in a void space. She felt nothing. Numb. Almost as if she wasn't existing at all. Neither dead or alive. Just there.

And then it happened. She recovered her hearing and heard a muffled sob. Then came her sight and a blurry image came into her view, slowly focusing into a chaotic scene. Fire. Blood. Explosions. A little girl.

"Sandara!" An older woman--her mother, sobbed uncontrollably. Screams of anguish and cries of despair resonated within the scene as bombs went off and soldiers wearing metallic gray armor raided homes and attacked innocent people.

"My baby, my baby." The mother croaked as she pulled her daughter's still body into her arms, holding her close. She lifted her gaze up, glaring straight into Sage's eyes. She wiped her tears in an exasperated manner, not caring that she was smearing her own daughter's blood all over her face. "This is all your fault."

The darkness that surrounded her suddenly disappeared, it's only trace leaving a shiver up Sage's spine. Her vision had ended.

When Sage came back to herself, her eyes focused on her surroundings. She found herself standing on the top stair of the palace's entrance.
