"Lovers into friends, move on to strangers" -Tove Lo, Out Of Mind
// warning: cursing & Dani running away from Cal//
*2 Days Before Valentines**
Rachel called me and said that she missed me. I didn't think she was telling the truth until Mom called. So now I'm driving to my old house. When I pull up to it, the house looks dull and lifeless. There's no flowers in the front yard, no garden gnomes or anything for that matter.
I ring the doorbell and a moment later, Ms. Garcia opens the door. Her face lights up when she sees me.
"Dani! You're back!" She exclaims. Soon enough Rachel, Ryan, and Jacob come running down the stairs. Ms. Garcia was really loud, they saw my car out front, or they were eavesdropping.
"We've missed you so much Dani," Rachel tells me when she gives me a tight hug.
"I've missed you all too. How's it like without me?" I ask.
"Boring. There's no one to tell me I'm adorable anymore except for the maids," Jacob answers. I laugh because I can tell he wasn't all the way serious about what he said.
"Calum is coming over later to play some video games with me and Rachel. Do you want to join us?" Ryan questions.
"Actually, I'm very busy. I might just stay for a few more minutes and then I have to go home to finish all my homework, clean, and then cook," I lie. I felt horrible that I was pushing away my family so I can avoid Calum but its the only way I can get over him.
"Oh that's okay. I have something to talk to you about anyways," Rachel says.
She takes me into the dining room to tell me all about the shit that's going on in her life. Things have changed for 8th graders. Apparently one of Rachel's friends is pregnant and Rachel's boyfriend is the father. Shit happens man. Shit happens.
After she's done with her story I get up from my seat and go to the kitchen. I need to grab a few cookies before I leave. I'm about to leave when I see Calum and Ryan talking by the front door. Oh Lord.
"Oh, Dani came to visit. I think she's in the kitchen or somewhere talking with Rachel," Ryan tells Calum. And I'm screwed.
Calum spots me from my hiding spot and smirks. "Go upstairs while I'll go get us some snacks," Calum says. Just stab me right now.
Don't do anything stupid.
Just talk like you guys are acquainted.
Whatever you do, don't have a make out session with him in your kitchen.
"I can see you," I hear Calum say beside me.
"I was just leaving," I announce but Calum won't let me leave.
"Are you sure you want to do this? If you walk away now I'll never forgive you." He makes it so hard!
"Then don't forgive me."
"Dani, will you be my Valentine's?" Luke whispers in my ear as we cuddle.
"No," I joke. I giggle a bit since I'm in a bit of a playful mood.
"Fine I'll have to ask Rachel out then," he sighs.
"I'll be your Valentine only because it disturbs me thinking about you and my sister dating," I tell him.
"It's getting late. I should get going," he announces. He rolls me off of him and stands up to leave.
"No, don't leave. Stay." I get up and wrap my arms around his waist from behind.
"But it's a school night," he reminds me.
"But I'm your girlfriend," I pout. An unfaithful one.
"I'll stay. On one condition," he says.
"And what is that?"
"If you won't kick me in your sleep."
"I can't make any promises." I give him a wink before dragging him back to the bed.
I can already tell this is going to be one wild night.
"I was about to save you from Luke last night because I thought he was hurting you. Then I heard you say something else and was like I wouldn't want to go in there," Ashton tells me as we walk to class.
"Yeah, I should warn you before things like that happen," I laugh. Or at least I tried to laugh. What I did with Luke felt so wrong. For some reason I feel like I broke a promise to Calum. The only reason I did it though was to make him feel the pain.
"I gotta get to class but see you later," Ashton says. I turn to say bye but he's already rushing down the hall. I turn back arouns only to bump into Calum.
"Uh, sorry," I tell him before pushing past him. I can feel his eyes on me as I try to make it to class.
*that scene was really pointless*
I get home to see Calum and Ashton hanging out on the couch. Strange but the world is a weird place.
"Hey," I say when I walk through the door with groceries. I set them on the kitchen table and walk back into the living room.
"Ashton, can I speak to you about something right quick?" I ask. He nods and follows me into my room.
"What the fuck is Calum doing here?" I question.
"He wanted to hang out so I said yes. We've been talking for a while and we're kind of friends now. Just because you aren't doesn't mean I can't, Dani. The world doesn't revolve around you," Ashton explains.
"I'm sorry for sounding angry. I'm just scared and I panicked. You go have fun now." I give him a smile before turning to my bed and laying down.
"I was going to order take out. Any suggestions?"
I start texting Beatrice about random shit that isn't really important. She then stops replying about 20 minutes later because her boyfriend is there. Right when I put my phone down I get a text from an unknown number.
Unknown- He loves you still. But he won't for long.
Me- who tf is this
Unknown- You'll find out
Me- I swear if this is A
Unknown- Stop thinking your life is some perfect little dumbass TV you dumb slut
Me- Nigga damn
"Food's here!" Ashton calls from the living room. I set my phone down and walk to the kitchen to get a plate. I meet Ashton in the living room to see that Calum is still here.
"I'm starving!" I groan as I grab my food from Ashton. I don't even know why I brought the plate though.
"You're on dish duty tonight," Ashton reminds me.
"Nope," I say, popping the 'p'.
"Because I cleaned the whole apartment yesterday!"
"You guys fight like an old married couple," Calum comments. I get quiet and stop talking. I didn't mean to make things awkward I just don't know what to do.
"I would never marry Dani," Ashton states.
"Oh I feel so special. Thanks a lot." I tell him before the doorbell rings. I wonder who could that be.
