Not only were you trying to process this, but Katsuki was also shocked. The Kingdom seemed to have such a divide between the rich and the poor, but it never occurred to him that the King was once just like him, sitting on the poor side with nothing. And to think that he once lived here, it was hard for you to imagine that.
Your mother had told you that your father was from a different kingdom and that their marriage was arranged to combine the two kingdoms. She said that one day it would be your duty to do the same. But now that you knew the truth, you felt betrayed. As if your whole life had been a lie, only now have you come to realise that you knew absolutely nothing. Your once perfect world was all a lie.
"They lied." you whispered under your breath. "It's not fair."
Katsuki looked to you in search for an explanation, but you simply didn't have one.
"My whole life, all this about my duty and doing what's best for the Kingdom, it was a lie."
"Your parents, they want you to marry a prince?" he asked, trying to understand.
"Not specifically, it makes sense now, they never told me to my face that I would have to marry for the sake of the Kingdom because they knew themselves that they didn't do the same. But one day, I figured it would happen. They hint at it, you see."
Bakugou didn't know exactly how to reply.
"Its funny, I've learnt more from being with you than I ever have in the castle." you said, fake smiling.
"The truth can hurt, Y/n. Just don't dwell on it. They probably did it to-"
"To what? To protect me?" you interrupted him, "I really think they've done that enough."
Bakugou wasn't sure how to respond to your snap, it was obvious you were hurting but there was nothing he could say or do to change it. He began to look through the pictures again, seeing how much you resemble your mother.
"She's beautiful." he mumbled.
"Is that supposed to be a complement, she looks exactly like me." you sniffed, half smiling.
"Maybe." he smirked, only moving his eyes to look at you.
"She looks a lot younger there, so does my father." you said picking up a photo of the man. You held the photo up slightly, and Bakugou did the same, holding the photo of the woman up next to yours.
It clicked in that moment, that somehow you had ended up in the same position your mother was in years ago. Running away from the castle with a stranger you had taken a liking to, rejecting your duty to follow your heart. Bakugou looked over to you, thinking the exact same thoughts. When your eyes met, a blush ran to your cheeks.
"It's like.."
"Me and you." he finished.
The patter of rain on the glass seemed to had stopped by now, which you had only just realised. You looked up to the glass roof to see that it was dark and the light was now on. Bakugou put away the letters and photos and walked over to the ladder. He motioned for you to to follow him as he climbed up and opened the trap door at the top.
As you reached the top, cold air hit you. You stood in the small concrete room that had gaps for windows, large enough to let out the light. The white light sparkled on the sea, exaggerating each shadow and highlight.
Bakugou looked over to see, seeing your faint smile. Slowly, he moved behind you and wrapped his arms around your waist, his warmth was comforting despite the cold air around you.
No words were said, none were necessary.
He moved to have a tighter grip on you, wrapping his arms around your stomach. In that moment it felt as if you were the only people in the world, as if you had known him your entire life. It felt like fate, something you had no control over, it just came naturally.
"Y/n"
"Yes?"
"Don't go back yet."
You turned around to face him, doe eyes looking up at him and he smiled down at you.
"Okay."
He smiled as rubbed his palm against your cheek, tucking a loose strand of hair behind your ear.
"It feels like forever ago since I met you." you said.
