Strange dreams haunt her at night. Even stranger is the fact that the man of her dreams just happens to resemble her new neighbor. But she had...
Four months had passed. And for the past four months, she had never once stopped thinking about him. The Serial Killings continued and now there were a total of 5 deaths all in the span of 6 months. The Choker, that was the name given for the serial killer, was extremely meticulous at his work. The police never found anything. Rea was furious.
She wanted to know who had done it. The past four months, she had continuously kept tabs on the investigation, visited the crime scenes, asked around for witnesses. It was frustrating. There was no evidence, no clue as to who it was.
Meanwhile, Jungkook and Rea had grown significantly closer to each other. She had kept her little investigation a secret from him since she had promised that she would let N.J go. Rea wasn't the kind of person who deliberately broke her promises, but with Namjoon she just had to. Jungkook often came to check up on her now that she was all alone and Rea had to admit that she was grateful for it. Her relationship with University friends had quite grown sour. After she lost Namjoon, she didn't quite feel like talking to anyone. She didn't have the same life anymore.
The bell rang, snapping Rea out of her daze. She was staring back at the bulletin board where she had collected news clipping and photos of Choker's victims. Namjoon was in the center, smiling with his dimples and red markers sketched her thoughts over the board.
I will find him.
Rea quickly ran down the stairs. She already knew who it was before she even opened the door. She threw open the door and was greeted by Jungkook, smiling his warm bunny smile, "Hey!"
"Hey J.K," Rea smiled as she let him in. J.K was the nickname Jungkook had insisted on for himself. Personally, she thought Kooks sounded better, but she kept that to herself. He was holding a little brown bag which Rea recognized was from the Pastry store that had recently opened down the street. "I got you this."
"Oh, wow!" Rea exclaimed peeking inside, "How did you know what I liked? This is my favorite!"
"I may or may not have stalked your Instagram profile." He casually replied. Oh, yeah...
She remembered posting something like that on her Instagram but she didn't think Jungkook would actually remember something like that. She walked into the kitchen to retrieve a plate as he made himself at home on her living room couch. The TV was playing in the background and one her way, Rea discreetly slipped towards her bedroom and closed her door. Her little bulletin board was inside her room and Jungkook didn't have to see that. If he saw that, he would be upset and Rea didn't want to deal with that. Jungkook was watching something on the Tv as she got back. Cutting a piece of pastry he had brought to the plate and sliding it towards him, Rea watched the news, "What's the occasion? Did something good happen?" She asked, curious, about the sudden gift. He just shrugged. "More like I accomplished something..." He trailed off as he munched on the pastry, "You'll findh outh soon, pobhably." He managed to say with his mouth full of pastry.
"Hold on, you got a little cream on your face," Rea said as she noticed the cream had gotten on his face. She suddenly took a wad of tissues and wiped it off his face when she froze. Jungkook's smile suddenly dropped as his attention turned towards her. Rea hadn't realized what she was doing. She used to do that for Namjoon when he was there and now, the familiarity of it brought back the painful memory of her friend. Suddenly, realizing what she had been doing, Rea pulled back but his fists suddenly clamped over her wrists in a death grip. Jungkook was gripping her hand tightly and his eyes peered into her soul as Rea stared back confused and a little startled at his sudden behavior. His eyes... they had turned a shade of obsidian black and they seemed to emit a glow of something deadly and dark.
He looked angry, no enraged, and. . . hurt?
Reluctant, and a little scared, Rea tugged back her hand but his grip was just too tight.
"Uh...ah-it hurts."
Jungkook suddenly seemed to snap out of whatever trance he had been in. He quickly let go of her hand as he cried out an apology, "Oh my, Sorry. I- I was just..."
He couldn't seem to find the right words as he fumbled around for an excuse. Rea stared back, confused, and expectant for an explanation. "I-I was just startled."
She didn't quite understand why he would react that way, yet she nodded her head as if to say it was fine. A small purplish bruise was forming around her wrists. When he noticed the bruise, Jungkook had dived into another fit of constant apologies. Seeing that she had still not verbally forgiven him, Jungkook proceeded to give little knocks to his head shaking them as he muttered, "Stupid J.K, stupid J.K." and the bewildered Rea couldn't help but burst into a fit of giggles at the sudden display of his childish behavior. Seeing that she had found his little display humorous, Jungkook proceeded to do other weird cute stuff, that just straight out made her bawl her eyes out from laughter. "Hahahaha...haha... What was that? Stop!"
Jungkook eventually stopped his little antics, a small smile playing at his lips still. "Did I make you smile?"
"Huh?"
"I did, didn't I?"
The question caught her off guard. That didn't feel right. The question felt highly... intimate. Rea didn't know how to reply to that. She awkwardly cleared her throat. "Ahem! I think I left the stove on. Be right back."
She quickly made her escape inside her kitchen fighting hard to conceal the furious blush that had made its way onto her cheeks. What's wrong with me?
Patting her cheeks that had gone considerably warm, she attempted to cool down before she had to face him again. Did I make you smile?
What kind of question was that?
It wasn't the question itself that had thrown her off, it was the tone. It was mellow and ... different? Rea couldn't quite explain how but it sounded different. Almost teasing, in a way, yet earnest. Rea shook her head. It's probably nothing.
She eventually made her way into the living room after a few minutes but was surprised to find the couch empty. Her phone dinged.
J.K 🐰 I'm heading out. Something came up.
So he went out? Well, at least that's that. She doesn't have to worry about facing him again.
She couldn't have been more wrong.
