Strange dreams haunt her at night. Even stranger is the fact that the man of her dreams just happens to resemble her new neighbor. But she had...

Rea blinked and she snapped back to reality with a gasp. She was standing in the lone street that led her to her home. It was probably late at night. She was returning from her late monthly grocery shopping from the nearest Walmart and her hands were weighed down with what little she could carry. It was then that she had blanked out and now she found herself standing at the exact same spot, in the middle of the night.
She shook her head. It was one of those dreams again. She didn't know the reason why they kept occurring, but whatever reason it was, Rea couldn't afford to look into it. Taking a deep breath, she resumed her path. The night was eerily quiet. Even the cicadas forgot to creak. And the street lights were the only thing that accompanied her down the path, its low hum penetrating the silence. But they weren't enough to calm her heart. It was beating loudly inside her chest. Eyes scanning the narrow lane she trudged forward with her heavy groceries. She would be lying to say that she wasn't scared. She hadn't planned to stay out this late but unfortunately, it had come to this and now she walked down the way, barely concealing her tremors as she walked under the starless night sky.
Unexpectedly a street light went out as soon as she had walked beneath it, essentially spooking her. Rea gulped down nervously.
It's alright Rea. Just keep walking.
She willed herself to move forward and ignore the lights. But when she had stepped under the next street lamp, the same fate befell them and Rea didn't know why, but she felt as if the darkness was following her. Clutching her grocery bags tightly, She took off.
She ran, sneakers slapping wildly against the tarred road. Her eyes remained transfixed behind her, trying to see if something was following her. Street lights went off every time she stepped beneath them and it spooked her to the core. All she wanted to do at that moment, was to reach home and slam the door shut. She hadn't looked where she was going and had bumped into something. Unceremoniously, she landed on her butt, the grocery bags falling along with her. Rea screamed.
"AAAAHHHH!"
"Hey, hey, What's wrong?" A familiar voice called from above and Rea pried open her eyes. Jungkook stood tall in front of her, his face curious and concerned. Rea pointed a trembling finger towards the back. "Pant... th-there... huff..."
Jungkook looked towards the back, eyebrows furrowing in curiosity.
"There's nothing there."
Rea looked back and gasped when she realized that the street lamps were all lit and there wasn't a single one gone. How? Jungkook was looking rather puzzled and worried.
"I thought there was something behind. I guess it was nothing." She breathed out. Jungkook's brows shot up in a knowing look. Bending down he picked up her grocery bags. "I'll walk you home." he declared to her.
"No, no. You don't have to do that. I'll be fine."
"You won't be. You have clearly proven that." He said, indicating her position on the ground. Rea sighed. He was right. She didn't think she had enough courage to walk back home in one piece after what happened. She whispers a low thanks to him to which he smiled and they walked back to her home.
When they finally reached the front door, Rea took the grocery bags from her neighbor and gave him a hasty bow. "Thank you for helping me. I'm sorry for the inconvenience." She replied regretfully to which Jungkook waved a hand dismissing her apology. "It's fine."
She gave him another bow. "I'll see you later then. Thanks again for the help." Jungkook nodded and she took that as her cue to leave but as she was about to get inside, he called, "Rea."
"Yeah?" Rea turned back questioningly and found Jungkook pursing his lips contemplating something. Eventually, he settled for a simple greeting.
"Good night." He called out before he walked back to his home.
It had been a long night. She slammed the door shut.
What the heck is happening?
The street light... She was sure of what she saw but how? She can't be asleep now can she? Tentatively, she pinched her cheek hard. "Ah!"
She was definitely awake. This was not a dream. What the hell?
Her throat had gone completely dry from all the running and panting she had done. She immediately threw her groceries on the countertop of her kitchen and hurried towards the dining table for a glass of water.
But to her surprise, there was already a glass, filled to the brim on the table with a sticky note attached to it.
To Rea,
Beware of him.
