Y/N's Pov

"I don't get why you're making me go out. I'm gonna be lonely and awkward at the new school anyway."

My mom inspected my outfit one more time, making sure I looked as neat as possible.

"...And I don't get why you want me to look perfect when the wind here is gonna mess my hair and outfit up anyway."

"Y/N I want you to make a good first impression to your new neighborhood, that's all," my mom replied.

I sighed. Technically I only moved here a week ago, but I never once took the chance to go out and make new friends. I prayed that my mom would just forget about me being a shut-in and not force me to go out, but here I am...

Being forced to go out.

My mom gave me a sympathetic expression "I just want you to make friends before you go to school tomorrow," she gave me a pat on the back, "Then maybe that new friend can show you around and it won't be as awkward as you say it will be!"

I looked at my mom dead-panned. She's way too enthusiastic about this.

I hesitantly shrugged and muttered a small "Sure."

My mom squealed and gave me a big tight hug.

"Oooo, I'm so excited. You're getting the chance to meet new people," she pulled away, gave me a kiss on the cheek, and lightly shoved me towards the door, "Go, now, before the golden opportunity disappears!"

I groaned and put the final piece of my outfit on my head. A F/C beanie.

"Cya," I said before exiting the house and slamming the door shut.

For a few minutes I just stood outside my house. What... exactly am I supposed to do? Sure, it's still somewhat bright outside, but I doubt many people my age are still playing outside.

Still, if I don't do at least something, my mom will get mad at me. The least I can do is get to know the area a bit better.

The coldness of the outside hit me like a truck. I already hate this.

Starting my miniature adventure, I started walking through the sidewalks, eyeing all the houses that practically looked identical, aside from the color. I then passed by a community center, and then a high school, that I assume I'm going to be attending, and then finally I arrived at a calm pond.

I took a moment to admire the area. It was beautiful and calm, unlike the hillbilly area I now live in. I took notice of a sign near the area. 'Stark's Pond' it said. I mentally noted myself to remember the name.

Continuing my walk, I walked past a church, police station, a bunch of stores... The dark soon overcame the sky. I shivered. I should be getting home now...

But where the hell am I?

I'm so pathetic I got lost in a small town. Though, to be fair, this place is a maze. I wanted to go home so badly, too, it was so cold I was freezing my ass off. I was living in Colorado but it felt like I was living in Antarctica.

Walking more, praying that I would just stumble upon my house and be saved, I stumbled upon a small coffee shop that, thank god, was still open. I smiled to myself. I was desperate for warmth, so seeing this was a miracle. Sadly I didn't have any money on me, but it didn't really matter.

I entered the small shop. The overhead radio was quietly playing some obscure and chill music. It was mostly empty in there, no customers in sight. The whole atmosphere was like a Starbucks but... more country and wholesome.
