Love vs. Lust
The bell rang announcing first period so we made our way over to our History class, me,
Shelby and Reagan had the exact same classes. It used to be fun but now I was dreading to have to sit next to Reagan for a full hour. By the time I took my seat I was nervous, irritated and angry. Reagan entered the class after most of the kids had already taken their seats and sat down next to me. I could tell that she was trying to act normal but it wasn’t going over so well, she kept on glancing in my direction with an anxious look on her face.
I tried to keep my eyes on my notes but failed miserably, I couldn’t help but look over at her every now and again. It looked like something was really bothering her and I couldn’t help but wonder what it was. The bell rang and the rest of the day went by slowly and awkwardly up until lunch, that’s when things got even worse.
Shelby and I made our way over to the cafeteria and decided to sit at one of the empty tables instead of behind the bleachers like we usually did. We didn’t want to have a run in with Reagan now that we were both pissed at her. I was about to start eating when Reagan came walking up to us. She still had that tortured look on her face. I swallowed hard and felt my body stiffen, Shelby looked around to where I was staring and her face literally turned red with anger.
“I’m going to slap her silly if she comes any closer” she mumbled under her breath making me smile. She really is a good friend. Reagan walked all the way up to our table and came to a stand right in front of me. Shelby jumped up and I swear she would have punched her if I didn’t stop her.
“What do you want?” I asked Reagan trying to stay calm.
“I… I know you’re angry at me and you’ve got every right to be but I just want to talk to you. Please” She answered, begging me with her eyes. I wanted to scream at her but my heart wouldn’t allow it. We’ve been friends for a long time and it felt like I at least owed her a few minutes to tell me what she had to say.
“Ok, let’s go outside” I said getting up and holding my hand out to Shelby. She got up and linked her arm with me. We made our way out onto the sports field and sat down on the grass in a little circle, reminding me of when we were still in primary school. I could tell that Shelby didn’t like the idea of talking to Reagan but she didn’t complain and I appreciated it.
“I’m really sorry about what happened” Reagan said sounding sincere.
“If you are so sorry, why did you do it? Why did you lie to me?” I questioned still not understanding why she would do that to me.
“I wasn’t lying, I really thought it was Cole’s baby” She answered as a tear ran down her face. Her words angered me, how dare she lie to me again? How could she think it was Cole’s baby when they never even had sex?
“Stop lying to me!” I yelled infuriated, I was just about ready to slap her myself.
“I’m not lying, please you have to believe me” Reagan begged. I took a deep breath and looked over to Shelby. I could tell that she was angry but she had a very confused look on her face.
“I think you should listen to what she has to say” Shelby said grabbing my hand and squeezing it. I nodded my head in agreement and my body started to shake. I knew I wasn’t going to like whatever she had to say.
