Dating Darry 2

*For the purpose of this storyline Dallas and Johnny survived, fantasy blurbs will be written as third person, but for longer stories, I prefer writing in first person. Please change the name to whatever you prefer, this is an Alternate universe. *

It had been about 2 months since the Curtis brothers had come for dinner, in that time with Pony had run off with Johnny after killing that Soc. There has been court hearing after hearing, Johnny remained in the hospital, Dallas would not sit still enough to heal properly. It had been very high stress. Darry had been working as much as he physically could but making ends meet were more difficult than ever. Soda was working down at DX full hours too, but with the medical expenses and lawyers and time off work to take Pony to court, there wasn't enough workable hours out there to be able to afford everything. Their parents had left behind what they could, but it couldn't have even dented everything that had arisen for the boys in the last year.

When my own parents had passed, they left me my family home, the home that had been passed down over several generations. While my parents did not make large amounts of money, they mad more than enough, and we were always comfortable. My family had old money. we were wealthy from the generations behind us.  my mother was sick, and she was deteriorating quickly, my father was just exhausted with the stress of her refusing treatment of any kind.  my mother was so headstrong and determined to make everything seamless for my father, she had dragged him along to make her own "arrangements" for lack of a better word. She did not want him to need to lift a finger when her time came. They were on their way to look at flowers for her arrangements and someone had made an illegal turn and hit their car. It was quick the medics had said. A freak accident had taken both of my parents in a swift blow. This was just a few years ago but sometimes it seems like yesterday.

Regardless, my family had left behind ample money. I also worked at one of the diners in town a day or two each week for something to keep me a bit busy, I didn't need the money, there was enough money left that I could be comfortable for a long time. You were the last remaining in your family. The Curtis boys and the gang changed everything for me.  I was apart of a family again.

I had initially met Darrel in High School. We had run with similar crowds so there was some overlap in our social lives and at parties, but somehow our lives did not truly cross until he came into the diner on the first hot day of the summer, late May. The diner was filled with silence, all I could hear was the small Coca-Cola fridge humming and some quiet tunes playing on the radio. Everyone had gone to swarm the public pools and beaches. I was leaning forward on the counter flipping through the local paper when I heard the bells on the entry door dinging incessantly as it was tugged open. A group of 5 or 6 men walked in chatting loudly, I straightened up and flipped the paper shut and greeted them with a smile. Most continued yammering amongst themselves and sat down while another waitress attended to them. 1 tall young man waltzed up to the counter and took off his hat to push his hair back with his fingers and place the blue cap on the counter.

"Hey there, I'm Abbi, here's a menu, can I get your started with a drink?" I said softly as I handed him the flimsy paper menu. He looked up with his bright blue eyes and I recognized him immediately. "Darrel Curtis, right? We were in school together, Abbi Gordon."

A bright grin came to his face, "Yes ma'am, we had English and Math together."

"I think maybe Chemistry too..." I smirked ever so slightly, even while feeling my cheeks heat up from his intimidating eye contact.

"Most definitely..." he smirked in return.

I broke our eye contact as I felt butterflies in the pit of my stomach fluttering rapidly. "So, what can I grab you?" I asked to distract the butterflies.
