"Horizon." A girl barked out her eyes flickering red. "Where the hell are you?!" She demanded, standing up from her throne. "That idiot." She grumbled angrily, staring at the sun that was slowly beginning to rise.
She took out her hair from up in a ponytail, her rich brown hair flowing down with a new purple streak ever present.
A reminder.
Hey girl, it looks good on you.
Of something.
Hey girl, you always look beautiful.
From the past.
The girl shook her head, thoughts dispersing like the wind. She stood up grabbing her leather jacket from off a table and briskly walking through the corridors. She lived in a large abandoned medieval castle in the middle of the woods. The interior had some small cracks in it though it was mostly well maintained by the girl- and perhaps some spirits that floated by.
The corridors held paintings of different people- well different monsters. Werewolves, vampires, spirits, sirens, shifters, witches, zombies. Anyone who had possibly been friends with the girl- their portrait was hung on the wall.
Four people were most often hung on the walls, their paintings large and glorious. A werewolf, a vampire, a siren, and a shifter. Four different monsters- four close friends.
Although it was three now.
Three best friends. A hole in their hearts where the fourth once resided.
Two years ago, that's when everything changed. That's when the light dimmed from their eyes and humanity became nothing more than scum that walked the same earth as them.
The girl finally reached the end of the carpeted corridor, grasping the golden handles of the large oak doors she tugged them open. On the horizon she could see the sun started to peek out from beyond the trees.
A small sigh escaped the girl's lips as she grabbed the base of a pitch black umbrella and held it by her side. "Now, now Horizon. Where could you be this time?" Her voice rang out enchantingly.
.
Horizon definitely should've heeded Alexis's warning of not staying out too early. Being tied to a pole in the middle of the woods surrounded by foundation workers when the sun was about to rise- not fun.
His black shirt was ripped up in so many places, the material barely holding itself together. His jeans were muddy from being pushed into the ground- forever stained. And his white sneakers were definitely not white anymore.
He wanted to go hunting- he did not expect to get hunted. Horizon could just smell the scent of the rabbits in his bag that was carelessly discarded to the side after his capture.
He wanted blood.
His eyes weakly flickered red as he strained against his bindings.
Brown.
Red.
Brown.
Red.
Brown.
Brown.
One of his captors snickered once they saw Horizon attempting to escape. "Pathetic little vampire." They sneered, poking Horizon's chest once. "You are going to be stuck there until the sun fully rises. Then my men can see what happens to a vampire when it touches the sun."
The man leaned in whispering in the boy's ear, "They burn." Horizon snapped at the man, fangs protruding his mouth. An angry snarl leaving his throat.
Laughter escaped the man, "You aren't getting out of this little vampire. Nobody is coming to save you. You are going to die out here- a mockery of your kind."
A cold punch slammed into Horizon's gut as he cried out in pain, his head sagging- trying to curl in on himself. "Aw poor wittle baby. Did that hurt? You want mommy?" The men in the clearing laughed heartily. Each of them having their own jeer to throw at the young vampire.
Don't cry she'll be here.
Don't cry she'll be here.
Don't cry.
Don't cry.
"What are you gentlemen doing?" A feminine voice rang out and Horizon nearly cried in relief. Standing at the edge of the clearing was Alexis in all her glory.
"Hey now pretty lady, what are you doing out here this late." The big man crooned. "Looking for someone."
"Yes as a matter of a fact I am." Alexis stated. Her hair swaying softly with the wind. "I'm looking for something that is mine."
The man strolled over to her, the men in the background laughing. "Maybe I can help you find it." He purred in the girl's ear. "Then maybe you and I can hit up a bar and have some fun afterwards. How about it girlie?"
Alexis stared at the man- an unreadable expression painted across her face. It only took a moment for her response. The girl sunk her fangs deep into the neck of the man, tearing them out and spitting on the ground. Her eyes flickered red as she swung her umbrella at the man's head. A crack sounded and he dropped to the ground dead.
"You have the worst tasting blood I've ever had- but perhaps your gang can provide me with a better meal." Alexis spat out disgusted.
"VAMPIRE!" One of the men bellowed, the rest of the men drawing their guns. "KILL HER."
"Oh cmon boys, let's play a little bit." Alexis snarled, lunging for her next victim.
Bullets whizzed by her ears, but nothing ever touched her. One by one she tore out the throats of the men dispatched by the foundation. That or breaking their spines with her umbrella.
Once she was finished she stood in a ring of bloodied bodies. The grass was no longer- instead a deep shade of crimson.
The sun slowly lifted higher and higher into the sky. While Alexis wasn't affected, Horizon started gaining burns, hissing as his skin rebelled against him.
Alexis walked towards the pole that Horizon was secured to- her bloodied boots squelching against the ground. Taking a knife out of her jacket pocket she sawed off the ropes binding Horizon.
"You're a bloody idiot for trying to stay out this early." Alexis muttered. "You younglings always trying to push the fucking boundaries."
Horizon slightly cowered under the glare that Alexis was giving him. "Sorry- I was hunting and then they came out of nowhere and I-"
Alexis raised a hand to cut off Horizon's rambling. "Go eat whoever the hell you want. But then we are going back home and you are staying there until I can trust you to go out again." The girl chucked the umbrella at the boy, him barely catching it.
Without hesitation Horizon scrambled towards the bodies- hungrily tearing into the men who once held him captive.
Hey girl, he's yours.
"He's mine."
