The wooden floorboards creaked underneath her feet.

"Hello?" she called, tip-toeing forwards. Gazing around, she noticed the planks were made into a spiralling staircase, and regaining her balance as she almost toppled off the edge, she watched as a large machine was lowered down. It had a pipe coming from the front, looking like it would spit something out. She backed away from the edge when thick black shadows twisted like vines on the walls around her. Her heartbeat became loud, and she thought she could hear a quiet hissing. Her head spun and she fell into unconsciousness.

***

Henry felt the similar sensation for the hundredth time since he had been down here.

"Henry, we need to get out of here," an Alice Angel said from behind him, flicking her ponytail away from her face. "We've got everything." She placed a hand on his shoulder reassuringly.

"If you say so," Henry said quietly. They snuck down the hallway and came to the spiralling staircase.

The last time I was here I was trying to rescue Boris, he thought, eyes pricking at the mention of his buddy.

Tendrils of shadows covered the walls, his heartbeat getting louder.

Henry felt Allison tense.

Looking down, he saw a young girl laying on the ground. He bent down and shook her gently.

"Allison, we have to take her back."

"What?" She looked down, opened and closed her mouth, then rolled her eyes. "Come on then."

Henry scooped her up, and jogging they made their way towards the safehouse. When they were halfway there, the two paused.

"Remind me, why did I agree to this?" Allison asked, readjusting the belts strapped to her waist.

"She's a human, just like me." Henry puffed, his hands on his knees. He glanced over at the girl resting against the wall.

"Alright. Well, we-"

The telltale shadows covered the walls. The two survivors froze in place, Henry glanced around and spotted a Little Miracle Station. Tapping Allison on the shoulder, he pointed towards it.

"You go in there with her, I'll find another one."

Since Henry had met Allison and Tom, he had told them about how nothing could get to them if they hid in the stations. Allison had said that they would have to run away from the Ink Demon.

Henry nodded, and dragging her towards it, he squeezed inside the station. It was a tight fit, but he and the kid managed to sit there until the shadows disappeared.

He slid out the station, and Allison ran up to them. "Are you alright?" she asked, helping the kid's unconscious body out of the station.

"Yeah, I'm fine, but she's not. We need to get her back as fast as we can."

Opening the safehouse door, Tom spun around, his eyes widened at the girl.

"We found her near the haunted house," Allison explained to him. "Henry was worried the Ink Demon would take her."

Tom rolled his eyes and tightened a bolt on his mechanical arm.

Placing the girl down his bed, Henry looked around.

"Tom, can you please help me find another bed around here?"

The wolf rolled his eyes again and made his way to the door.

***

Allison leaned against the doorframe. "How long until she wakes up?"

Henry shrugged, rubbing his forehead. "No idea. Could be a day, could even be a week or a month."

It's been two days, she thought, rubbing her eyes, and remembered how Tom had to chop down a shelf to put her bed in the right spot.

Allison was silent for a moment as she studied her.

She wore a white blouse with a rounded collar, she had blue pants which was unusual for a girl to wear. She had black hair which passed her shoulders, the girl had a round nose with slightly tanned skin.

"What's her name?"

Henry shrugged again. "How am I supposed to know?"

"No, I didn't mean that. I meant what are we going to call her for now? We can't keep calling her 'she'."

Henry thought for a moment. "What about Muffin?"

"Muffin..." Allison echoed, slightly laughing, then nodded. "Henry, you need some rest."

He opened his mouth to argue back, but she interrupted him.

"No buts, go to sleep." She turned the light off and walked over to her own bed. She heard Henry sigh, then his quiet snores.
